COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Aug. 27 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family founder and chairman Dr. James Dobson will attend and speak at a Thursday rally at the Alabama state judicial center in Montgomery, where he will address fellow Christians about the controversy surrounding Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore -- and the right of the American people to acknowledge God in the public square.

Dobson will be joined by Chief Justice Moore, former United Nations ambassador Alan Keyes and other prominent Christian leaders at the "Restore the Foundations" rally, to be held at noon CDT at the state judicial center, located at 300 Dexter Ave.

"The issue in Alabama is not simply about a 5,300-pound monument depicting the Ten Commandments in an Alabama courthouse," Dobson explained. "The larger issue is that the unelected, unaccountable judiciary, who are appointed for life, have become so powerful."

It was a federal judge, U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson, who ordered Moore to remove the 2 1/2-ton stone monument of the Ten Commandments from the judicial center. Moore refused to comply, saying that to do so would force him to violate his oath of office, but his fellow justices overruled him. The monument was removed under their direction Wednesday morning.

Since Dr. Dobson urged listeners to his daily radio show on Monday to travel to Alabama and join thousands of other Christians who had gone to Montgomery to stand with Moore, there has been an outpouring of support. Dobson has scheduled another broadcast, to be aired Friday morning, to update listeners on his own experiences in the Alabama capital.

Dobson is also scheduled to discuss the Moore case, and the out-of-control federal judiciary, during an appearance on tonight's "Hannity and Colmes," airing at 9 p.m. EDT on the Fox News Channel.
