Performer 'a sissy' for hedge on debate

By John Simerman
CONTRA COSTA TIMES

Arnold Schwarzenegger continued to hold out Monday as the only major candidate who has not committed to the first gubernatorial recall forum, prompting sharp attacks from all sides in a race growing more vitriolic by the day.

The actor's absence from the forum roster drew fighting words. "He's a sissy is what I'm saying," said Richie Ross, a political strategist for Democratic Lt. Cruz Bustamante. "He's a scaredy-cat."

John Feliz, campaign director for one of the other Republican candidates, concurred. "They're afraid of Tom McClintock," he said.

And if Bustamante doesn't immediately "debate" Gray Davis, he is a coward as well.

But of course. After all, they are both candidates.

Um, he's McClintock's guy, right? Why do they try to disguise this?

Don't you want to hear arnold's positions on the issues? His I'll let you know 60 days after I'm elected BS is going nowhere fast.

*Sigh* Playing to the lowest common denominator again - they think he'll throw a tantrum or something because they're calling him names? What a bunch of crap. They must assume that the stereotype of "dumb musclehead bodybuilder" applies to Arnie.

I would, but baiting the guy with tauntingly intellectual names like "sissy" is rather crass, don't you think?

I'm looking forward to having this California recall election over so we can all go back to bashing President Bush.

Let me guess, you demanded to hear Bush's "Exit Strategy" before we went into Afghanistan right?

It was Bush himself that denounced previous engagements without exit stratergy, I guess campaign speeches are meaningless after the election. Just like his pledge on CFR.

He'll do what he always does, and that is to do things when he wants to, not by others' proddings. I'm betting he participate, but he shouldn't react to the baiting.

We the Freepers. First we'll destroy the Republican's best chance of taking the Governorship of California. Then we can set our sights on eating our own on a national scale, and handing the Oval Office back to the Democrats.

Steve, sometimes you just can't give all the answers in advance. None of us knew what the War on Terror would ultimately require us to do. Schwarzenegger doesn't know everything he'll be required to do either. He has stated new taxes won't be a part if his fix. You can either accept that or vote for someone else.

I guess the answer to your question would be "Yes."

Actually, this could result in a huge boost for McClintock. Aside from anyone thinking that Arnold's "afraid" of him, or of debating in general, McClintock will have a chance to nail Bustamante's hide to the wall, and lay out his plans without there being any need to do or say anything that would be seen as slamming Arnold.

He was klintonesque in his pledge, barring emergencies. 8 years was enough of that.
