Dallas Police Chief Terrell Bolton fired 11:20 AM CDT on Tuesday, August 26, 2003
From Staff Reports
Dallas Police Chief Terrell Bolton has been fired, WFAA-TV reported Tuesday morning.
Boltons tenure has been marked by controversy, including the city's high crime rate; the disclosure that a recently fired officer had been hired despite a background that included a record of domestic violence; and a fake-drug scandal.
Bolton had been chief since October 1999.

Breaking? LOL.

He was and came across as incompetent.....And it's not about race...There were several other good candidates that were minorities...never figured out why they selected him.

So stupidity CAN be its' own reward!
I'm astounded that Laura Miller had the "huevos" to do this, long-overdue though it was!

The Dallas Drywall Cartel story sure didn't get much coverage, might send the wrong message I guess.

Somewhere, a civil rights attorney has just sat straight up in bed, his jaws dripping with saliva.
All hands aboard the good ship Dallas had better rig for federal discrimation lawsuit. Incoming!

It had to be the City Manager as Laura Miller doesn't have the authority to hire/fire the police chief. This is good news regardless of who did it!

Actually IIRC, some of it was about race(but in reverse). Upon taking office didn't Bolton demote several white supervisors, replacing them with minority ones.
Good riddance, what he was a buffoon. Let John Wiley Price squeal like a pig(though actually lately he has been pretty reasonable on several issues).

Could someone post some figures on Dallas's increasing crime and murder rate? I could of sworn I read on here posts about that. Maybe I should lay off the drywall.

Do you really think there is going to be any trouble? Yeah, the usual loudmouth 'community leaders' will moan, but there has been plenty of talk lately about Dallas having the highest crime rate. And since those in S. Dallas have suffered from it the most, I am not so sure that they are cryin' their eyes out over this firing.

Uh oh... What's the "uh oh" about?

Didn't someone on the City Council PROMISE race riots if Bolton was fired? Maybe the raced card just can't trump policy anymore.

I don't have the figures handy, but according to the FBI stats Dallas has had the highest crime rate of any major city for 5 years straight. Of course this has to be seen in the context of steadily declining crime rates(Dallas' rate last year was one of the best in years), but relatively it is bad. That being said, there are almost no places in Dallas that I haven't been to in daylight, Dallas just isn't burnt out late 60's Detroit. But I am male, and there are rough areas, many of which I would avoid at night.

I should add, no matter what the statistics say, no place in Dallas comes close to being as scary as much of New Orleans.
