he then muddles his point by saying
that it is not inconsistent with his notion of conservatism
for the government to force me, through progressive taxation,
to pay for someone else's drug prescription --
a notion that would have been considered Marxist
in the late 19th and early 20th Century.

It still is Marxist in the early 21st Century
as is progressive taxation, itself,
an idea, which, I believe Marx himself
considered an essential prelude to the establishment of a Communist state.

You've encapsulated it perfectly. Pundits, whether right or left, like to think of themselves as "opinion makers." Another aspect of pundits is that when things are going well, they like to upset the applecart, simply to prove to themselves how powerful they are. I didn't know megolomania and narcissism were part of the characteristics of "conservativism." It seems the more individuals think for themselves, the more panicked the likes of Rush Limbaugh and George Will become.

Exactly my sense. Some of the less secure and more elitist conservative pundits seem to be trying to herd the conservatives back into the corral. The more power and knowledge the base has, the less they have.

Please define the term 'Bushbot'. The meaning seems a bit fuzzy from the context I see it being used on FR.

Precisely. I've always sensed that Rush never liked the growth of conservative talk radio, because it essentially ended his monopoly. How many times has he said over the years, "All you need is me," "Accept no substitutes," and things like that?

I fully agree. The welfare state, financed by progressive taxation, is merely the practical form and implementation of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."

I guess the EIB school of conservative education is like the old Roach Motel ads-you can check in,but, you can't check out. Instead of urging listeners to go forth and spread their wings in all things conservative, there's a cloying, nanny state type desperation to his warnings. If the FR server ever crashes,he'll have zero show prep.Unless he can find more stories about lactating strippers and toe fungus.

"Al Gore, Bill Clinton, HOward Dean, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, Barbara Lee, Marty Meehan, John Kerry, Patrick Leahy, Charles Rangel, Nadler the Hutt, Janet Reno, Robert Reich, Dianne Fienstein, and HILLARY CLINTON want...with more ease and with less effort than if a democrat was president."

Um maybe in some cases but definitely not in most.
Janet Reno = Gun grabber / john Ashcroft = NRA member
Kennedy/Kerry/Lee = US Surrender to France disarm US /
Bush/Rummy = DEFINITELY NOT, Rearm US
Nadler = cut military programs / Bush/Cheney etc = increase military programs
CLintons = fund overseas abortion / Bush = cancel funds for overseas abortions

so as you can see (of course i am using generics here) there are differences which make me want to vote for the GOP. I know some are far from perfect but trust me the Dems are much much worse

I hear you, but as of late the ACTIONS of both camps (not just what they say) are becoming quite similiar. It seems the interest of the party/self-wealth/prestige/etc. comes before the interest of America, and you wonder why we have 30-40% voter turnout.
