Legislation to help undocumented immigrants get California drivers' licenses is headed for a vote by the full Assembly.

The bill, which has become involved in the campaign to recall Gov. Gray Davis, was approved Wednesday by the Assembly Appropriations Committee with Democrats supporting the measure and Republicans opposing it.

A Ca. drivers license is a legal instrument. A legal instrument cannot be issued to an illeagle alien because it renders the legal licence null and void. The licenses are worthless.

I guarantee you that the "Brady Check" and ten day wait will not stop these illegal purchases, as the drivers license is used to verify residence, but not citizenship.
If they have no U.S. criminal record, they will pass the Brady Check.

The false statements they make on the form #4473 will constitute a felony, but only the dealer has to worry about prosecution.

Military style 1911's in particular go for big money in Mex., Kali. will expedite this black market if this passes, but then they will blame the dealers and manufactureres for the increased smuggling!

Isn't all that is needed to register to vote a driver's license? Will these driver's licenses look any different than a citizen of the US California driver's license?

Whats the matter you? Don't you know that this is not America anymore? This is "We Are The World, We Are The Children". Illegal aliens have more rights, and more opportunity (in state tuition) free medical care, don't have to pay taxes, etc. than you do.

Stop your rebellion against allowing the world to invade the U.S.A.! Your government is doing little to stop them, and is prosecuting ranchers who are.

Just two dumb questions:

Isn't the License application in English and aren't there particular questions that could trip one up. Also, if the one giving the test speaks no Spanish?

Secondly, and most important, how in the world could they afford insurance? Mine is pretty expensive and I have to budget very carefully to keep my bills paid.

Ok so they want to give illegals driver's licenses. without prooof of citizenship or legal status, they should stamp "no proof of citizenship or immigration status presented" in red letters on the license!!!those that present evidence won't have the red letters... (I know illegal alien is better but too radical)

There are insurance agencies in LA that sell verification of insurance, but do not actually pay for accidents. In other words you get your evidence of insurance to show DMV and nothing else.

Pay at the pump is the only way to get everyone to pay for car insurance.

Don't know, but I'm going to guess the test is in about 6 languages just like everything else in Cal. Guess they have to read the signs when they have the behind the wheel test.
