Roman groups have issued a statement claiming that the upcoming Mel Gibson film "The Passion" will cause an upsurge of hatred, bigotry, and antinomianism. Antonius Bellisarisus of the Roman Defense League said, "The movie portrays the Romans as unfeeling bureaucrats and conquerors. It will revive the centuries-old prejudice against Romans, blaming them for killing Jesus."
Gibson has not addressed the Roman groups directly, but has issued this statement:
The movie depicts the crucifixion of Jesus as portrayed in the Gospels. The New Testament clearly states that Jesus was crucified at the instruction of Pontius Pilate. No event in the movie relates to living Romans today, or any other Romans not involved in the actual execution.
Privately, Gibson added, "I am in the film business. I work with Romans every day. There are Romans working on this project and they voiced no objection to me. Some of my best friends are Romans."

There is so much hidden truth here, it's not funny ---- it's scarry!!! All one has to do is play the race card, or the bigotry card and --- PRESTO!!! --- you can make some people jump through guilt trip pony hoops. Mel Gibson should just follow the Gospel. If some people have a problem with that, that's the way the Gospel works. The prophets "offended" coutless people who hated the truth. Like God says, "The truth shall set you free." He didn't say, "The truth should never be uncomfortable."

When the Apostle Paul came to Ephesus for the first
time his message of Christ was received with joy. Paul stayed for two
years teaching and preaching the Gospel. That Gospel changed lives.
In the book of Acts Luke says, A large number who had practiced
sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When
they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand
drachmas. (About $1.5 Million) That is costly commitment.
Riot: The change in peoples lives was so significant that the trade in
silver idols plummeted. It got so bad that Alexander the Silversmith
rallied the idol makers and started a riot. His complaint was, this
fellow Paul has convinced and led astray large numbers of people here
in Ephesus and in practically the whole province of Asia. Nobody is
buying our idols!
The idol makers wanted to kill Paul...in order to restore their pocketbooks to their former fatness
When Mel made his movie the ADL started screaming....Its how they make money
spreading fear intimidation and lies...they need to spread fear to their followers
to get them to anti up fees dues and payments..
In this case Mel (Unlike Jesus) doesnt really threaten their livlihood...
The ADL is just using Mel and the story of the Crucifiction as fodder for their sheep
-they should be ashamed...but doubt that is possible

The movie portrays the Romans as unfeeling bureaucrats and conquerors. But weren't they?
I guess "Vini, Vidi, Vici." is no longer PC.

Look...its a troll!
Well NAZIs, like the rest of the hard left, have often used movies for propaganda purposes, Gibson simply tells a story straight from the Bible. Seeing as the "hero" is a Jew I'm fairly certain the Jew hating NAZIs would not approve.
It was though, with great amusement, that I watched the motion picture industry that hates Gibson's movie about how a Jew saved the world honor Hitler's personal favorite propagandist - Leni Refienstahl - at the Oscars.

Adolf Hitler used propaganda movies to psychologically condition his followers to ruthlessly murder people. You make an interesting point.
Gibson's propaganda movie might make his followers go out and get abused and crucified for what they believe in.

Gibson made Pontius Pilate look like a nice guy, but according to history he was exceedingly cruel, using the slightest excuse to crucify people. The movie is much harsher in its depiction of Jewish leaders than the Roman governor, although the common Roman soldier is depicted as heartless and sadistic.
