Blind Alligators in Alabama
ProMed | 08/12/03 | vanity

Posted on 08/12/2003 9:50:28 AM PDT by genefromjersey

I check a website called ProMed, which discusses human and animal disease outbreaks from all over the world, and was surprised to see this one from Alabama.

2 blind alligators were trapped last month near Ocean Springs, Alabama, in response to citizen reports of "nuisance" alligators.

Both gators had a small cavity eaten away-through flesh and bone-and the left eye of one was almost completely eaten away.Tox reports from US Fish&Wildlife service are pending.

Some 54 blind gators have been trapped in this area in the past year.In addition, there have been at least 12 pelican deaths, according to the trapper.

I know there are some of you who live in "gator country",and guess some of you may have seen something similar over the years. Comments ?

No, I'm not making this up, and yes, I do know Janet Reno is back.

All I know is my son's been terrorizing the Alabama outdoors since the age of 4. He'd camp out, alone in the woods behind our house and friends would ask "aren't you afraid of coyotes and gators?" I'd always respond "He won't hurt 'em." Maybe I was wrong.

Is perhaps the male alligator to female alligator ratio completely out of whack down there?

Rumor has it that 3 blind mice have also been trapped, and Third Eye Blind will be playing Mobile Aug. 23-25.

It's all the gay gator marriage. Gators moved on from backbiting to eyebiting.

Clearly this is a perfect chance to see how really dedicated PETA sorts are. These poor blind gators must be fed a hand errr..."hand fed" if they can't see !

Stay Safe !

Ocean Springs - the City of Discovery. We just discovered it's really in Mississippi. Boycott's right.

How do they hunt if blind?

Do they hunt using sound and vibration?

Are they evolving into a type of Graboid?

Blind gators were a problem along the Mobile Bay causeway. Every now and then one would crawl out and lay across the road. Eventually an 18 wheeler would take it out. Don't remember if the lost eyesight was blamed on paper plant discharge or septic tank runoff.

It's the fault of US policies in the Middle East....
