Standardizing unfairness

In New York City and other large cities, high school students are increasingly being expelled — not for bad behavior, but because administrators think they will fail standardized tests. These students are not considered dropouts. That would look bad for the public school system. Rather, they are called "pushouts." The students are usually offered alternative programs, where they can earn a General Educational Development (GED) diploma. However, GED teachers have said that most pushouts never even get a GED. Such developments are the antithesis of modern public education goals that seek to leave no child behind.

The culpability for the problem of pushouts appears to rest with administrators, counselors and teachers who give a vote of no confidence in the academic performance of struggling students, effectively denying them an equal opportunity to graduate.

* The only problem I see concerning teachers and administrators is CYA, especially where the NYC public school system is concerned. I think there are a lot of teachers who are unqualified and hate teaching. It's a bad combination to have a teacher who is unqualified, hates teaching and/or hates who he/she is teaching. Most of my teachers sucked because they hated teaching black kids. Granted most of the kids were lazy and unmotivated too, but the blatant way they disregarded even the white kids as uneducated PWT was disgusting. I was in a Catholic school so I can only imagine what public school is like! I had one good teacher an Indian man from New Delhi, who would keep me after school and tutor me.

To give up on students, however unruly, unmotivated or under-achieving they may be, is to deny them their rights.

*Um... if they are unruly, unmotivated, and badly behaved then they care little for their 'rights'. I didn't know education was a 'right'. I thought it was a responsibility! (personal that is).

That our public schools push out undesirables is contemptible. Accountability and standards must apply to administrators, teachers and counselors. Obviously, our state and local authorities are letting public school officials off the hook.

* This is true, but there is incest of BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS going on in NYC with the teacher's union, especially Ms.Randy who cares nothing for children.

It looks like abortion is a self-defeating issue for the 'RATS. Rabid supporters of unrestricted abortion seem to be reproducing themselves at a slower rate than the rest of the population. The demographics can only get worse for the 'RATS over time. ~by Paleo Conservative"(Quote of the day)

Somewhat true. Immigration overcomes the effects of the abortions and the majority of the immigrants become minorities that lean left. How else could California be so DemocRAT-infested.

While low income Hispanic immigrants tend to vote for income redistribution programs, they tend to be rather conservative on social issues. I live in a rather heavily Hispanic region of Texas, and Hispanics aren't Barney Frank DemocRATS.
