After 9/11, most sensible people would acknowledge that we are in a war against terror. Terrorist groups do not exist in a vacuum. They need funding for their activities. In such an environment, why would we want to make it easy for illegal aliens to perform undocumented financial transactions within the United States? Furthermore, why would we want to make it easier for illegal aliens to engage in other surreptitious activities, like drug trafficking and money laundering?

Why? It seems that the "banks and open borders lobby" are lobbying for just such dangerously irresponsible behavior. These groups want the U.S. Department of the Treasury to allow banks to accept a "foreign government-issued consular identification card" as a valid form of ID when foreign nationals open bank accounts in the U.S. According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), "Almost exclusively illegal aliens use these cards."

Regarding this "Matricula" ID card, FAIR points out:

The new regulation compromises homeland security by allowing banks to accept unverifiable foreign consular cards that will actually facilitate money laundering by potential terrorists and criminal aliens...

The new regulation fails to require banks to even maintain copies of the documents used by foreign nationals to open bank accounts. Without even this minimal requirement, federal law enforcement authorities will be severely hampered in their efforts to track down and prosecute foreign terrorists and criminal alien money laundering.

U.S. immigration authorities have said the Matricula consular is virtually worthless as an identity document. The documents people use to apply for these cards are easily counterfeited. In fact, people have been apprehended in possession of numerous cards with multiple identities.

But then again, the author isn't telling us what we don't already know. The problem is getting positive political action to at least slow the sunami of illegal inundation. Perhaps we need to hire Garrett Morris to do his old "News For the Hard of Hearing" bit for them.

Bank of America and Wells Fargo took the lead there. The Bank of America also goes out of it's way to obstruct loans to legitimate businesses that legally sell guns and provides funding to Jesse's blackmail scam Rainbow Coalition. They also bleed support to the Ford Foundation by their leadership's association.
