Report: Pedophile Gained Custody of Foster Child Using False Social Security Number The Associated Press

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Using a false Social Security number, a convicted pedophile escaped detection and gained custody of a 12-year-old foster child, according to a published report. Ira Butt kept the boy in his home for three months in 2001, The Morning Call of Allentown reported Sunday, until the boy told caseworkers that Butt had computer images of child pornography, court records show. The boy did not allege sexual abuse.

Butt was convicted of molestation in 1996 and was accused of sexual abuse four times in 1997.

The Northampton County Children and Youth department had checked what they thought was Butt's criminal history and child-abuse record, but turned up nothing suspicious because the Social Security number Butt gave actually was that of his adult son.

The youth department is now requiring prospective adoptive and foster parents, as well as everyone in their household, to submit photo identification. The county in eastern Pennsylvania also will begin fingerprinting candidates next month for a federal criminal history check.

Butt was arrested on child pornography charges and sentenced July 8 to three and a half to seven years in prison. The man he shares his home with, Kenneth Anthony Sr., faces separate charges for allegedly trying to delete hundreds of pornographic images from Butt's laptop computer.

Did the authorities notice that this young boy was put into foster care by a pair of homosexuals? That never would have been acceptable until recently. Homosexual adoption is likely one more area where the recent Supreme Court decision legalizing sodomy will lead to big trouble.

Already legal in lots of states. In Iowa it's fairly commonplace.

It's encouraged quite a bit, actually. You know, to make sure adoption is PC and fair.

When you talk about adoption, you need to understand that you are not necessarily talking about a two parent, hetero household for a child. Single parents, gay and lesbian parents, parents with high divorce rates...you name it.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that those who favor adoption have a responsibility to ensure that it is both safe AND justified?

Consider for a moment the story earlier tonight about the social wrecker who was caught soliciting sex online from a person he believed to be an underage girl. Is this person also responsible for assessing the fitness of biological parents? For assessing the fitness of foster or adoptive parents? He had boxes of confidential records in his home. What do you suppose he was doing with them?


Time to wake up, folks. Corruption is everywhere, as much as in our child welfare system as anywhere else. Time to shake off the mythology and walk, eyes wide open, into the realm of reality. NO where is this more important than where we are speaking about the lives of our children.
