Loose Lips Sink Ships

Our heroic men and women in uniform in Iraq must be discouraged this morning as they turn to the front page of the Boston Herald and read the headline "They're Sitting Ducks." As our soldiers fight against terrorists and struggle to help set the stage for a constitution in what was Saddam Hussein's despotism, they must be annoyed at the spectacle of Senator Edward M. Kennedy treating their dangerous work as a political football. No doubt, our soldiers are thinking that Kennedy's attempt at weakening and discrediting President Bush is also putting their mission and their lives at risk.

"It's a disgrace that the case for war seems to have been based on shoddy intelligence," Kennedy thunders, even though the United Nations, the previous Clinton administration, the British, and Kennedy himself had also accepted this intelligence as valid. There is no question over the fact that Saddam Hussein had chemical weapons, he used them against his own people, and there is a great deal of evidence that he was trying to obtain biological and nuclear weapons as well. National Security Advisor Condolesa Rice described the situation best when she stated that she hoped we wouldn't wait for evidence in the form of a mushroom cloud.

In his speech at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Kennedy accused President Bush of lying when he stated that "All the evidence points to the conclusion that they put a spin on the intelligence and a spin on the truth." Kennedy should show this "evidence" to the public to back up this dark left-wing conspiracy theory. Calling the President of the United States, and indirectly calling the Prime Minister of Great Britain a liar is a serious charge to make, a charge that ought to be backed up by evidence. At a time when the coalition of the willing has successfully liberated Iraq from a brutal Bath Socialist tyranny, have made the world safer from the machinations of a fanatic, and have struck a substantial blow against the forces of international Islamic terror, such an accusation by an important sitting Senator, and such a brazen display of partisan politics is irresponsible and out of place.

Apparently, Senator and presidential aspirant John F. Kerry will be picking up this line of reasoning today as Kerry is scheduled to deliver a speech to New York City firefighters and police. The Herald reports that Kerry will ask Americans whether they are safer today than they were before Bush took office. The salient question that should be asked is how Democrat Al Gore would have handled the attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11th, 2001 had he been president. Would Gore and the democrats have successfully waged war against Afghanistan and Iraq? Would they have picked up and detained the mostly illegal aliens thought to be connected to the 9/11 attacks? Would they have tightened up on immigration? How safe would we have been under a democrat administration?

We are now in a war in Iraq and, unfortunately and tragically, in a war people are killed and wounded. At the Battle of the Bulge and at Iwo Jima during World War II American men were sadly killed in the line of duty. I don't believe the opposition party pointed accusatory fingers at FDR regarding his war policies during the conflict. I don't believe that the opposition party back then described our troops, while in the heat of battle, as "sitting ducks."

"Loose Lips" are generally inadvertent, at most negligent. The Swimmer is doing what he's doing quite deliberatly. He should be censured by the Senate, but that's going to happen when he flies over the snowdrifts in Hell.

This is indeed, a salient question. If the answer is yes...and that they would've done more, than why all objection to what is being done, now. Why all the obsturction and accusations that the president lied to us. If the answer in no, than they would have to admit they are weak on terror...and wouldn't have repsonded appropriately. These guys are trying to have it both ways with the luxury of not being the one in the position of making the decisions to protect America.

Fresh from the anniversary of the murder he got away with 34 years ago, Kennedy still enjoys the sound of his voice and enjoys the support of throngs of people who never will "get it".

Great post. I agree, there needs to be accountability - before the elections. The Dems. are endangering the lives of our troops with their careless attacks on our CIC, our motives - even our national sovereignty when they side with organizations and nations that not only opposed our war efforts, but oppose our superpower status, our Christian heritage, Constitution and freedom.

Credibility of the press past tipping point?

" The Dems. are endangering the lives of our troops with their careless attacks on our CIC..."

I am going to make it my personal mission,to repeat this mantra in every post and to repeat it to every person I encounter:

Every time a Democrat trashes the CinC and the military planning, another soldier dies.

No terrorist is going to abandon their cause,if they think our country is losing faith, our President is about to be impeached and the Democrat Party believes that Saddam Hussein was an innocent.

No operatives involved in the development, procurement, deployment or concealment of WMD is going to cooperate with the US,if they believe that the Democrats will prevail and the US will withdraw and Saddam will be restored to power. Security Moms should take note of this.As long as the Democrats continue to undermine the efforts to secure our nation, their children will always be at risk.

I call on our elected officials, starting at the top,to take off the gloves and start hammering this message home.We cannot let the Democrat's reckless and craven attacks on our military operations continue-too many lives are at stake, both here and abroad.

I believe if plotted on a graph,it will be shown that there exists a direct correlation between the increased attacks on our soldiers and the Democrats increased verbal attacks on the military and intelligence agencies. The Democrats and the media must be held to account.

Exactly what I've been saying for weeks. The RATS should be taken to task for using our troops as pawns in their sick ego play.

Good post. "Will of the people" doesn't mean will of the far-left anti-American activist minority.

This very attitude has encouraged me to try to contact 4 guys I was corresponding through the major offensive in the Iraq war - the air siege mainly. I'm hoping they were assigned to the CVN76 - as they were on the Connie, being retired. I hope to hear from them.

But in the meantime, I requested and have been given, the name of 2 guys to write to and support - in theatre. I will write them, and collect funds to send care packages to them. I will ask the children at my Church to write them letters and draw them pictures, which these strong men just love! Isn't that great? One of them sent me pics of his tent - with pictures that children had drawn covering the inside! I tell you, it choked me up.

I will continue to pray for them, and I will remember all of the things these ugly Democrats are saying but I will not write a word of it to the guys. I will write them only positive articles, if I have to write them myself! I will send them cartoons from the newspaper, interesting tidbits from my life, and I will keep my yellow ribbon around the tree out front. I will not take it down until the very last guy is home from Iraq.

So there, tell that to the car-dunker drunk. He will not hurt the guys I am writing to bec. I will work very hard to make sure that enough good happens that IF they hear, it won't even register in their minds, for all the good they are hearing.
