Another goal of the $5 million, two-week expedition beginning July 27 is to find evidence of a great flood about 7,500 years ago that inundated the Black Sea, turning the freshwater lake into a saltwater ocean. Some scholars have said the engulfing could be the Biblical flood of Noah. Others say the theory lacks any scientific premise and complain it could overshadow the more noteworthy experiments that will take place. It does not lack scientific premise. There is plenty of evidence that it was caused by a breakthrough from the Med as that body of water became so swollen from the melt from the last ice age.

Much more likely to be the source of the story of the Garden of Eden. The Black Sea Basin seems a likely place for the beginnings of agriculture and civilization. The Crimea, the Danube delta and Turkey have all been posited in the past. Why not right in the middle if it was available at the time. It was right at the time of the Black Seas filling that agriculture suddenly began to spread in all directions, as did the Indo European peoples.

The Hindu Ma-Nu (their name for "Noah") story places the event somewhere other than in the middle of a desert.

Also, some scholars note that the Bible's version has Noah living in a desert in Mesopotamia, while the pre-flood coastline of Turkey was a lush, forested area."
If I were "some scholars", I would question whether the timber and pitch to build the Ark came from a desert in Mesopotamia or "a lush, forested area."
