Urgent Prayer and Help Request for MistyCA's Hospitalized Vietnam Veteran Brother

Here is the request from MistyCA:

I need help. My brother is in the hospital in Santa Barbara. He is dying. He has 10% heart capacity left after having (since Vietnam) three surgeries to replace infected valves and a resection to remove diseased tissue. The most recent surgery was done in Palo Alto by Dr. Burdin two years ago. He has chronic infections and needed a transplant but the VA denied the transplant.

Now he is sitting in the hospital in Santa Barbara waiting for the VA to get off their butt and get him in a VA facitility so he can get the care he needs. Here is his story in his own words.... dang...I can't remember how to make a link.. http://members.cox.net/jkk/vet.htm

This vet needs some freeper noise and help. Is there anything anyone can do here to get someone to move the VA to help him? Please. :( Can someone help me do a thread for my brother?

I just read your brother's story. The way we treat vets in this country is shameful. It's a mixed up world that actors and athletes make millions while those who risk their very lives so I can sit in comfort in my home are paid so very little in terms of financial recompensation and honor and attention.

There is a Freeper who is called AFphys - I think that's her name. She may be able to help work through the VA.

There is a Freeper called something like AFphys (close but not quite right) - she is an Air Force physician I believe - she would be able to help work through the VA. Does anyone know her exact Freeper name so we can ping her?

I am so sorry to hear this about your brother. My dad was in the Army in WWI and II and the VA was great to him. It breaks me up to hear that this is no longer the case. All I can offer is the power of prayer and that I do with all my heart.

My prayers as well...I have heard very good things about Loma Linda if he could get in there..
Also contact a service rep like DAV AMVETS VFW perhaps they can help....as they often mediate between vets and the VA bureauocrats

You are all the most wonderful people in the world. Thank you so much. I know prayer helps, I just feel so helpless right now. No vet should be treated with less regard then those who hold the highest positions in this country. All Senators and Congressmen should live at the same level they expect our vets to live. But that's another battle for another day. Good bless all of our veterans! Thanks to all of them for their service.

I hope and assume someone is starting with her bro's congresscritter, assembly persons, etc....... Congressman Thomas got my brother home form a Navy WESPAC cruise ASAP when my mom died.

Misty, many hugs to you. I read your brother's story and this is so wrong. I assume you've tried the normal channels(congressman, senator, etc.)? I'll keep him, you and the rest of your family in my prayers and hope something good happens very soon. I'm sorry to say I know nobody with any VA connections.

Did you see the suggestion to contact your brother's congresscritter in post #14 and DAV in post #9?

Also, contact the Santa Barbara news media! Maybe they will help expose the shameful way your brother (and other veterans) are treated.

Try contacting the office of Sen. Bill Frist -- they may take an interest due to his being a cardiac surgeon.
