If I didn't have Xena's Guy, I'd seek a man on FR first.

I've said it before and will say again...

Women get from any relationship about what they expect, and demand, provided they choose wisely. The same is true for men. I s'pect this hasn't changed much in the history of mankind.

If people make these decisions based on hormonal input, they are simply gambling, and have a gamblers chance of success. If two people perform that most delightful of human tasks, that is get to KNOW one another, and choose COMPATIBLE mates, commitment will work.

While I realize things aren't the same as they were in my youth, I think there still are people of both genders that would like to find what I sought in my youth. For the gold diggers and the vagabonds, with luck, they can find each other and simply share their own long term misery. I believe people are better off alone than striking up plans with such people. Furthermore, I think if people set high standards for themselves, and get out and about, and do things, they will find others that have set high standards for themselves, and they will increase their chances of choosing wisely.

Sometimes I think it boils down to self respect.

Sad to say, most young women these days can't cook, don't want to clean house or do much of anything else come to think of it.

My wife, OTOH, does all that and more. Not too long ago she shot a wild pig off our back deck (one shot through the C5 vertebra), trussed it up on a tree, gutted it, and had it on ice when I got home from work.

Now THAT's a WOMAN!

The reason for marriage shy men can be laid right at the feet of the feminist movement. That much is clear.

I would not get married again if you were to hold a gun to my head and demand it of me.

Not even if Xena's Guy leaves me for a 19-year-old toned busty hottie?

This article is bunk. Anyone, man or woman, who truly wants to get married can get married. There have always been people who are overly picky (tire kickers I call them).

Secondly, many women are just as aware as men of the divorce statistics. This causes both men and women to be more cautious and picky.

Sounds to me like this lady wants to marry a guy with 50 years of wisdom packed in a 25 year-old brain, and no rough edges.

Good point! It's unrealistic to expect to have things perfect from the beginning. I got married when I was 22, to a 26-year-old Air Force Sergeant. We were both self-centered idiots, except for being Republicans. After 15 years, we're a lot closer to being the spouses, and the parents, God wants us to be. Nothing worth doing is effortless!

Considering this is from LewRockwell.com, I'm surprised the article doesn't mention how Mary Todd Lincoln had a horrible marriage to that tyrant, Abe.

Sad to say, most young women these days can't cook, don't want to clean house or do much of anything else come to think of it.

Thankfully, my wife was raised "old school" by her Grandmother, and not her hippy burn-out parents. Not too long ago she shot a wild pig off our back deck (one shot through the C5 vertebra), trussed it up on a tree, gutted it, and had it on ice when I got home from work.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but a woman that can do that is, in my eyes, incredibly sexy.

For you I might make an exception.

But you'd have to be willing to move to the Virgin Islands on an acre plot with a luxury house built on a bluff overlooking the ocean.

I expect if he did that we'd find you standing over his bullet-riddled corpse, saying, "How do I reload this thing?"

Laz,
Do you have kids?

Two people need to understand before they start that it is a situation where one must give 110% and expect nothing back. That is a quote from my dad.
Too many women today want the 50's hubby when it comes to providing and the 90's whimp when it comes to everything else. Men are men. They need to act like it and no amount of whinning by a woman will make them otherwise.
I love men, I especially love the one I have. He is not the ideal of the "perfect man" (although I think he is close) and Lord Knows! I am not the "perfect woman". He puts up with me and that is grand.
It's those women who sit on FR all day (ah-hum, me) then tell their man that they can't go out on a Friday night to relax with their pals after they worked hard all week providing the house and food, (not me) that bug the crap out of me. Geez, cut these men a break!!!!

It has to be with the right person. Times can get tough but it can also be very rewarding, kind of like life.
