I think they should sue Chevrolet for negligently marketing cars to 17-year-olds. /dark satire

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned .....especially when she gets behind the wheel of a vehicle.

I'm gonna play armchair shrink a minute, and guess that Oswalt is estranged from her father and that her relationship with Stock was needy and sexual. I'm guessing we'll find a sad story behind her murder, though of course that won't mitigate her guilt; she deserves a harsh sentence. It might, though, give some pause as to the disposable nature of parenthood these days.

To out myself on this one, I think it is the media that has created this phenomenon; in particular people like that goul, Katie Couric. You didn't see people in pain over the loss of loved ones 20 years ago, as far as I recall, being interviewed on their living room couches "clutching" these pictures. I think it has now entered the popular culture and I think it is tacky. Can you tell that I don't like this practice?

I'm not sure what you think is tacky. People grieving and 'clutching' a photo of their loved one...or the media even mentioning it? Have you ever lost a loved one...especially a child?

The people I grew up with were stoic. My grandma lost her only two sons to hemophilia when they were just entering their 30s. She would have never shown grief to strangers. But that kind of MidWestern, WASP, stiff-upper lip self-control is disappearing.

It is horrible that this woman lost her child, but why do they do this picture clutching thing?

It's good theater. Makes for a great photo op. Just like when those dirt-poor middle easterners carry 17x24 framed, glass portraits of their "martyrs" during funeral processions.

I just don't understand how kids can be so angry and violent today. She slapped the boy and then ran down the couple! Unbelievable! I imagine all that grrlpower just went to her head.

Yes I have. I lost both my parents. Thanks be to God, my children are all fine. My dad was the first family member I ever lost. I was struck dumb and felt frozen with pain. I didn't talk about it. I didn't even cry. Maybe it's a midwestern stoicism kind of thing. The theatrics of this picture thing, wailing in public, they just seem tasteless to me. My dad was a veteran of WWI and II. His funeral was very beautiful thanks to the vets.

How dare you! I saw part of the hearing on the local news. The mother had the picture with her as she wept softly. She was not wailing or shoving it in front of the cameras.

The Bowens live in my small town and the whole community is just heart broken for them. They lost their ONLY child! murdered by an insane bimbo.

Don't disgrace the midwest either with your tasteless opinions. My father is from Iowa. He's not the most emotional person by southern standards but he could never be as cold as you are.

I thought this would get interesting. Please note, I made no personal comment about this heartbroken woman. I dislike this holding the picture thing, always have and always will. The fact that I don't like it when people wail and shriek in public doesn't mean I don't have any sympathy for them. It does not make me a disgrace, only someone who does not know me would call me cold and your personal attack is uncalled for. I agree with the "insane bimbo" part, however.

My mom's sister died in 1936 from kidney problems due to an early bout of scarlet fever. She was only 9 years old, and my grandma blamed herself. We heard about Delores from my mom and aunts. I never asked my grandma about her because, until the day she died, any mention of Delores would bring tears to her eyes. She never got over it.

I have never understood the victims families going to every hearing and putting on a public display of grief. This was only a bail hearing and a simple phone call to the DA by the family would insure that the judge would hear the family’s wish that no bail be granted.

I have often wondered how much hate and vindictiveness has to be in one's heart to be able to sit through a trial hearing every heart-wrenching detail over and over again.

My prayers for all three families.

Its been 8 years since my daughter was murdered. Someone I work with told me yesterday of this article about her here on Free Republic. I decided to read it. I read your comment and question as to why I had to clutch a picture of Meagan in the front row of the courtroom. I was told where to sit. I was put in a position to give my daughter a voice. A face. She could’nt do it for herself. It was all I could do for her. Believe me it was not for attention. There were all three national and local networks, abc, nbc, cbs as well as fox and cnn parked in front of our house for days. Not to mention her visitation and funeral. Honestly, I knew of course they were there, but at the same time was numb to it, out of body. Hard to explain. My husband I did one interview with the 3 local news stations and one with our news paper. We declined all national networks fox and cnn. All the morni.g news shows....though the police chief did goodmorning america. We declined People mag. Montel Williams, Inside edition, 48 hours, 20/20, Oprah. Yes, I said no to Oprah. I declined publishers about writing books. Quite frankly. I did have a moment speaking on behalf of daughter. I'm not from the midwest but believe me, I am strong, I have class and prefer my privacy. No stiff upper lip though. When I see something wrong I have to, and will, say it. Its that steel magnolia gene I was born with. I did good. I know you will never see this, but thank you, or anyone for hearing me out now, over 8and years later. Thank you. Theresa Bowen, RN Trauma Main OR at Medical University of SC and Meagan Bowens mom. Note. Rebecca Oswalt is prayed for everyday as well as Curtis Stock. Rebecca was sentenced to 32 years. No parole. Three families suffer. Her mother and I do not communicate....but the day she was sentenced I asked to speak with her mom. They gave us a few minutes of privacy. I hugged her mom and we both cried in each others arms. I told her I was so sorry. I felt so bad for her. She also lost her daughter. I know where mine is. She is fine. I miss her every minute of everyday. But I don't worry about her. She never felt any pain and never will. Again, thank you.

Thank you for posting this. It has helped me to have a glimmer of understanding of the depth of your loss.

I am so sorry that this happened to your daughter and to your family. It's a terrible thing.
