Watch the second showing of "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS.

You'll still be able to catch Dolly Parton.

In 1975 I sat on the Esplanade on the 4th and listened to the Boston Pops with Arthur Fiedler. I didn't so much hear the 105's as I felt them, sitting as I was about 80 feet from them.

Guns don't go "Boom!", folks. They go * WHAM! *

I am watching the Pops, and Leeanne Rimes should drink battery acisd after tonight. She is nowhere near good enought to sing after the Mormon Tabernacle Choir without sounding like a fool.

Our little ol' Nashville Symphony did a respectable job, especially considering it's still about 90 degrees here. I was a trumpet player during my misspent youth, and playing the works they performed is not an easy feat in an air-conditioned auditorium, much less in this heat and humidity.

FYI, the fireworks show was probably the biggest in Nashville history. I'm kinda ticked that I left downtown about 6:00 and missed it up close and personal.

All in all, I think we done ourselves proud.

It is kinda strange that the 1812 Overture has become so associated with the US Independence day, given that it was composed to celebrate a Czarist Imperial Russian military victory. Of course, since that was a victory over the French, why not celebrate?

Forgive the Vanity, is anyone else disappointed that the Boston Pops has gone to CBS and there show has been cut from 2 1/2 hours to one.

Big time. I used to catch it early on the west coast (4:00 PM) before the festivities began out here. You ask me, the Boston Pops put on the best 4th of July Concert in the country. It's the one concert I still want to attend in person. Missed it again this year. (Sigh!)

After living in Massachusetts for a number of years, and watching the 4th celebration, I suggest that fans get a CD or DVD and play it every year, because the program doesn't change.

CBS has ruined the Boston Pops 4th. No complete 1812, half the music, and half the fireworks.

I hope everyone lets CBS and their sponsors now how we liked it!

We were very disappointed with seeing that the Pops concert was no longer on A&E....I am on the west coast...and every year on A&E, we would get the full program, and they would run it twice, so you could watch it either time, depending on what else you might want to watch....

This year, the Pops concert will not be on until 10pm Pacific time....but that is also the time that our local fireworks shows from Seattle are shown....

Since I have not seen the show yet, and am hearing all the negative reviews, and added to that, the show is really cut down in time, I am not at all happy...

This sucks....and I dont intend to watch the Pops show at all now...I wonder what happened that A&E is no longer carrying Pops...was this a decision by A&E, or a decision by the Pops to switch networks...

I am really disappointed...

As usual the Pops show was wonderful. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir was elegant and excellent as always. The fireworks were good except for the finale which was great with the soprano singing the Star Spangled Banner. Really well done.

I give CBS no better than a D for the coverage. It was too wacked up and compressed. Perhaps next year CBS would consider 90 minutes so that we get a better feel for the concert and all of the fun that is going on at the Esplanade. A & E did an excellent job in the past and I shall miss their full coverage.

Boston Pops was a real bummer this year. Keith L. didn't have to talk, they didn't show a sing-a-long, more commercials and fireworks than Pops. I'm watching the NSO repeat right now. CBS probably wanted to cut the 1812 Overture because it was too militaristic. At least I have it on tape for the past five years.

I just couldn't believe what CBS did and the Pops did for money imo.

Harry Smith wasn't really excited about being there or about the 4th of July. It was just another day at work for HS. Leann Rimes was wearing a slip. I was also shocked that the Tanglewood Choir wasn't there - instead the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Going with a network didn't showcase Boston Pops. Nobody showed any emotion in the show - except me. I was anticipating the grand finale but it was just fireworks. The Pops were long gone but for the Flag at the bandshell.

The Pops 4th sucked on cbs and Kraft is ruining Oreos and we had hail earlier today. Not a good week for music and cookie lovers.

The CBS coverage of the Boston Pops stunk BIG TIME.

They dragged the program out for an extra 30 minutes for commercials (fireworks started at 10:30 instead of 10pm) and cut away from the fireworks for commercials IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FIREWORKS DISPLAY FOR A SOLID TWO OR THREE MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CBS = Commercial BS is more like it :o(
