And in Orwellian-speak, it is called "Diversity and Inclusion." "INCLUSION". When it is specificallly to EXCLUDE certain people. With this stuff codified and blessed by a Supreme Court that is as conservative as we could ever hope for, I am more sure than ever of the uncorrectable slide of the USA into the oblivion of history. I hope someday in heaven to discuss the thoughts of our forefathers on such as this "diversity and INCLUSION".

Where do I sign up?! That's the catch. You have to purchase a book from them that tells you were all these "jobs" supposedly can be found. And this book is very expensive.
Trust me. I looked in to it.

You know, I felt that same way you did. Then someone pointed out to me that the company is forced to add that phrase "women and minorities encouraged to apply," at the behest of the federal government.
Your tax dollars at work!

Obviously DemocRATs in charge when that law was passed.

US Government requires for you to be confirmed as of a Tribe of Native American Indian blood so that you can own a Casino, sell Cigarettes and Gasoline without taxes, live on an Indian Reservation, get "Ethnic Preferences" for government programs, Subsidies, College Tuition, College Enrollment Preferences at University of Michigan Law School or Duke Medical School, or any other Native American Indian benefit situation.
Doesn't this sound like the government issuing a "Title of Nobility" to you?
Sure does to me.
Think about it, special rights passed along, to lucky recipients, for merely taking the trouble to be born, as if they were some Duke or some Princess.

JUST FARMERS, NOT NOBILITY:
Leaving European tyranny and nobility...
No "Diversity preferences" or "special racial status" ever sought or received...
Not "just off the boat"...
Been there, done all that...

I agree with you that any private business ought to be able to hire or fire anyone for any reason, or without a reason.
However, one big contributing factor to the reason why employers are actively seeking minority employees to the exclusion of white straight males is because of federal diversity guidelines and civil lawsuits pressuring them to do so.

The "law" is not always right.I would agree with you. However, it's all that we have to ensure civility & we have to abide by them like it or not.
Or, try & change the laws you feel are not "right".

As a (non-disabled, served in no major conflicts)veteran I resent being lumped into a 'diversity' category. It does a disservice to the vets that actually sacrificed more than I did.
Off and on over the last few years, I've sent resumes to a local insurance company that has run ads for jobs. Every time, they send me a 'diversity questionaire' to fill out and send back. I fill it out truthfully and never hear from them again. I'm thinking about doing the process again and checking some 'other' boxes. Wonder if I'll get an interview as a result?

The only silver lining is that monster.com's jobs are all fake! Hubby tried for a YEAR sending out resumes to monster.com ..and they're all fake jobs!
They sure are - all that online stuff is a scam so recruiters can cherrypick resumes. It took me about four months to figure it out - what broke the code was when three different recruiters wanted me to sign exclusive contracts with them for the SAME JOB. I got one in a month the oldfashioned way - through an employment agency.
