LOS ANGELES -- Any day now, community colleges here may begin telling faculty members that they cannot be paid and students that summer classes are canceled.

Nursing homes are losing so much state aid that many soon may have to shut down or limit their services, a prospect that has elderly residents confused and frightened.

As many as 30,000 government workers who had been expecting pay raises in the fall are instead receiving formal notices warning that they could lose their jobs by then, because the state is broke.

This is life in California, on the brink of a fiscal disaster.

The nation's most populous state, home to one of the world's largest economies, has been staring in disbelief at the same dire predicament for months: a $38 billion deficit, the largest shortfall in its history and an extreme example of the budget woes afflicting many states. But now it has only hours left to solve the problem.

Illegal aliens will continue, however, to receive benefits, thanks to Gov. Davis.

It is a Washington Post Article. Free Republic as per a legal settlement can't post a full article of the Compost or LA Slimes.

Why not post the whole article?

It's from the Washington Post, and FR has a legal settlement with the WP that says only excerpts are allowed here.

The state has to go into this condition, and then Wall Street hopefully will take over the budget process.

Then, we will have a real budget with real cuts. Also, that will be the beginning of the end of Davis's as a Rat political leader.

Officials say that when California does collapse, it will go into forclosure and will be parcelled and given to Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona.

California will HAVE to stand up or FALL. They voted for Davis and he laughed all the way to his throne.

But the illegal aliens will be well fed, the heroin addicts will have their free needles, Davis will still have his body guards, his limo driver, gas for his limo, a well stocked pantry in the Governers Mansion, where is the crisis? As long as there are checks in the check book, he can keep spending.

At least the benefits will have to come out of the state beauracrat's pocket this time.

hat is, unless the guv wants to rob the last productive family clean out of the state.

Which I'm not certain he wouldn't be willing to do.

I think they should give it to North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama.

Maybe if the bankers take over we'll finally get to hear where the money really goes. Of course, there will also be lucrative loans involved with heavy finance charges. Those sharks are not our friends.

They would but it would be a logistical nightmare. Kinda like when Maine was part of Massacheusetts. Hawaii has requested San Diego though so they can consolidate the Pacific Naval assets.
