Schwarzenegger contemplates political run

Arnold Schwarzenegger jokes, "My kids are normal kids. They go to the mall and pass out recall petitions".

And, on a recent "Tonight" show, Schwarzenegger facetiously remarked to Jay Leno, "There is no money over there (in Iraq). There's no leadership – pretty much like California." Rapper Snoop Dogg was also on the program and promptly dubbed Schwarzenegger "The Notorious GOP" in good fun.

Watch out Governor Davis! Auh-nuld might indeed be gearing up to "terminate" your political career in the state of California. Clearly, Schwarzenegger is testing the political waters at this juncture.

The California recall effort is in full swing, with proponents claiming to have garnered over 700,000 of the 900,000 signatures required to hold a special election challenging Governor Gray Davis. And, if the conditions are right, Arnold Schwarzenegger appears poised to throw his hat into the ring and declare his candidacy for the California governorship. According to a June 27th Associated Press piece, "Schwarzenegger's advisers have said he will decide whether to run after the July 2nd release of his movie (Terminator 3), and only if it becomes clear that an effort underway to recall Gov. Gray Davis will qualify for the ballot". Californians are understandably peeved that Davis took the reins of office in good stead with surplus monies in state coffers, and managed to create a mind-boggling deficit of over $38 billion.

I absolutely adore Arnold Schwarzenegger and what he projects -- from his movies, to his larger-than-life persona and trenchant philosophy that epitomizes the "can do" rugged individualism of conservatism. The guy is incredibly impressive, possessing the charisma, brains and tenacity that have made him a winner in life. If he wants to be Governor of California, I have no doubt that he'll succeed. In fact, it's widely acknowledged that Schwarzenegger would be a natural in the political arena, given his overwhelming appeal that's sure to generate enthused voters, especially among Californians that have grown weary of the inept and dull Gov. Gray Davis.

The state of California is being run into the ground. This recall effort is well worth it.

Now, I know alot of people don't like Arnold and are leary of his wife. Anything has to be better than Davis, though. Reagan worked, Ventura didn't...we may find out about Arnold soon.

The "anything better" argument is bogus. A pro-tax increase Republican would be much worse than a pro-tax Democrat who has to face an anti-tax legislature. Check out the situation in Tennesee, Georgia, and Alabama if you don't believe me. BTW, all of these GOP governors campaigned against tax increases.

Yeah, I know. I am not saying that he would be the best thing. But it may be all you get in California.

As far as Georgia goes, I live in Georgia, and Perdue is gone next election. Mainly over the flag issue, but yeah, he isn't exactly the best change we could have had.

--the recall, if successful and a Repub is in place next year as the financial sky falls in, will be a disaster for the Bush attempt to win Commiefornia, which otherwise would guarantee Bushes' reelection.

--Davis and the Demotraitors should stew in their own juice for at least another year--

The best in California? Don't be sure that it is much better in other states.

I understand the dilemma, however. A lot of folks have been badly burned in Alabama. Like Davis, The previous Democratic governor was much hated by conservatives but he was also totally ineffective and was not able to do much damage. The current GOP governor is campaigning for a 20 percent tax increase and persuaded most Republicans in the legislature (who would have fought a Democratic tax increase) to endorse it.

Governor Riley, btw, had much stronger conservative credibles than Arnold before he was elected that is.

Ventura was far and away better than Skip Humphrey. Would Skip have reacted to the funerally the way Ventura did?

He sure did. What is your point? That all politicians are liars. If so, you have a point.

That filling budget deficits sometimes require tax increases.
