Close to three-quarters of adults in New Hampshire say they approve of Governor Craig Benson's veto of the state budget according to the latest New Hampshire Poll. Overall, 72% of adults in the state say they favor the budget veto, 18% oppose the budget veto, and 10% are undecided.
These results are based on 600 completed telephone interviews among a statewide random sample of adults in New Hampshire conducted June 26, 2003. Of the 600 interviews, 450 were among registered voters (170 Republicans, 120 Democrats, and 160 undeclared voters). The theoretical margin of error for the total sample is plus or minus 4 percentage points, 95% of the time, on questions where opinion is evenly split. These results are compared to the regular quarterly New Hampshire Poll that was conducted June 20 through 23, 2003.
A total of 85% of registered Republicans say they favor Benson's veto of the state budget, 56% of Democrats favor the veto, and 67% of undeclared voters favor the veto.

Wow, a governor who apparently actually practices fiscal conservatism.
Is this guy available to run for president?

In 2008, the odds are probably 50-50. I'm serious. It's widely acknowledged here in the party that he wants that job, and he could self-finance his race.

Good for Benson, but a sad example of how futile so much of politics is.
Here we have a Republican governor with huge majorities in both Houses. We keep being told on the national level how wonderful things will be if we can only get a bigger Republican majority in the House and 'filibuster-proof' Senate.
Well, here is an example in action....big majorities and uncontrolled spending with a good chance of veto override.
"If we only had a few more Republicans".....BS!

The Dems want an even bigger jump in spending. First you get rid of all the Dems in a legislative body and then you get rid of all the RINOs. Slow and steady wins the race.
