The Israeli military has exonerated soldiers involved in the March death of Rachel Corrie, 23, the Olympia woman crushed beneath an armored bulldozer as she protested home demolitions in Rafah in the Gaza Strip. The military prosecutor concluded the bulldozer's crew could not have seen or heard Corrie, the Associated Press reported Thursday. That contradicts eyewitness accounts that Corrie was in the bulldozer driver's line of site when she was buried under a wave of dirt and rocks.

This is an interesting incident, in that the photo evidence appeared to show Rachel in front of a garden-variety bulldozer.

The much less publicized side picture, however, showed that the bulldozer was HUGE, on the order of a Caterpillar D9 or so. In these beasts, you should wear ear protection and the driver is seated 8 feet off the ground or so; making it far less likely that the operator could even see her (and far more obvious that Rachel was doing something stupid).

Excellent. I would encourage more protesters to head on over. Feel free to go to Syria on the eve of our bombing runs there.

"There was no attempt after she was under the bulldozer to stop the work or offer medical assistance."

Oh puhlease... that dozer driver had to be shocked and horrified when he realized she got caught up in the debris pile and injured. I'd be very interested in seeing that video. If he didn't render medical aid, I'm sure it was because her friends had rushed to her side and were already doing so.

I don't care WHAT the girl's politics were, she didn't have the brain cells God gave a gnat to climb up the debris in front of a moving bulldozer...

Not only that, but the IDF bulldozers driver's cab is heavily armored, so the visibility would be even less than an ordinary industrial grade Caterpillar.

Like letting her leftists friends convince her to endanger herself for their cause.

Their goal isn't to find the truth. It's to protect the institution," said Sharoni, an Israeli-born Jew who works to promote peace between Israel and Palestine.

Another useful idiot on the loose. Where's the pic of her enraged peaceful friend burning the US flag in Gaza?

That bulldozer is huge...but from this perspective, it looks like the distance between Corrie and the bulldozer was maybe enough that the driver could see her? But maybe the driver assumed that, as he got closer, she would move...and of course, she would be out of sight.

That's what I tried to tell people when this thing first happened. You just can't imagine how big those things are until you get up close to them. The line of vision is very narrow and you can't hear anything except the roar of the engine. The girl could move far faster than that dozer and it was only her conceit and being convinced the dozer would stop that killed her. There was no way that driver could even know she was there.

To illustrate your point, consider that Evergreen is the college that 1 - 2 years ago asked Mumia whatever (convicted cop killer in PA prison) to be their commencement speaker. Completely liberal cupcakes.

I blame her professors at Evergreen. Academia needs to be held accountable for the garbage they infuse..

On the bright side, she has a pretty good shot at the Darwin Award for 2003, although the competition is stiff, and the year is still young...

That shot was a while before she was actually run over. the papers all printed that as if she was run over immediately after this pic which is false.

The PA will keep the "Saint Crepe" myth going forever. Well, until another useful idiot comes along.....

(If a 32 ton D-9 "cat" ran over her, she wouldn't have lived to get to the hospital afterwards!)

Haven't heard any further incidences of Evergreen students stepping in front of Israeli bulldozers. Hey the Israelis play Hardball.
