You have to hand it to Hillary
Oak Lawn (IL) Reporter ^ | 6/19/03 | Michael M. Bates

Regular readers may have noticed that, perhaps on an occasion or two, I’ve mentioned my lack of esteem for the Family Clinton. The popular appellation "trailer park trash" would appear to be too charitable.

Having said that, I must admit that there’s at least one area, other than unashamed deception and perjury, in which the Clintons excel. That is self-promotion.

New York’s junior senator has issued (written may not be the accurate word) a book about her trials and tribulations at the hands of the vast right wing conspiracy. Make that network. You may have heard about her tome. Not doing so would have required extraordinary effort.

When Hillary decided to peddle the book, she did two things. She got some new pants suits. And she turned to the Clinton-loving media. They didn’t disappoint.

Mz Clinton kicked things off with an interview conducted by Barbara "What kind of tree would you be?" Walters, the hard-hitting, tenacious as a bulldog investigative journalist. Billed as an ABC News special, there was no news involved, only a regurgitation of the "leaks" from Mz Clinton’s book that mysteriously appeared a few days before it hit the stores. Victimization was the play of the day as Barbara explained how so many things the president’s wife had done "which at the time you thought were very innocent" had unfairly come back to haunt her.

When Hillary refused to answer questions, Walters moved on without demur. She asked one question and then suggested her guest read an excerpt from her book as the answer to it. In the off chance that any viewer didn’t appreciate what a treasure Hillary genuinely is, Walters exclaimed, "I don't think people realize how strong your faith is." Barbara serviced Mz Clinton just as adoringly, just as completely, as her wandering husband had ever been by his favorite intern.

Hawking a book requires multiple appearances, so Mz Clinton made it over to NBC’s Today show for a 5-part love fest with the redoubtable, but perky, Katie Couric. Katie is no Barbara Walters when it comes to sniffing out the truth, but she still hit the former First Lady with a real toughie. Touching on Hillary’s lack of popularity in some quarters, Couric demanded to know the facts: "But were you surprised at the backlash? The really vitriolic, violent backlash against you in many ways? Do you think it was good old-fashioned sexism?"

Larry King was on the schedule naturally. He let her ramble on frequently about all those unjustified, unproven assaults against her and her Viking. This interview reminded me of one of Mz Clinton’s most grating habits. She says, "you know" like in almost every paragraph, you know?

In the King interview, which lasted about 20 minutes, she managed to you know almost four dozen times. This isn’t what we expect from the world’s smartest woman. Buyers of her book can only hope that her ghostwriters are better in crafting her words than she is in recycling them.

Hillary retreats to her self-styled "zone of privacy" when she doesn’t want to answer a question. Generally, privacy isn’t a concept rigorously applied to people whose husband promised – or threatened, depending on your viewpoint – two for the price of one, or people who run for and are elected to the U.S. Senate, or people who scarf up $8 million to crank out hundreds of pages of semi-fiction. Then again, the First Accomplice is nothing if not special.

Hillary’s publisher claims that 200,000 copies of her book were sold on its release date. If you believe that, I’ve got some presidential pardons I want to sell you. Oh, you’ve already bought some of those? Anyway, all the hype about the success of her book is, I strongly suspect, just that. Hype.

The Barnes and Noble chain says it sold over 40,000 copies of Mz Clinton’s book the very first day. Maybe it did. But if the book is such a smashing winner, why isn’t it listed a week later on the bestseller list of the New York Times, or the Chicago Tribune, or the Washington Post, or the Los Angeles Times?

I don’t pretend to know the time frame it takes for a bestseller to surface. Possibly it takes several weeks and that’s why Hillary’s book is yet off the radar. If that’s the case, however, how can we constantly be told of its unparalleled sales?

No doubt lots of her books have been sold. Abortion rights organizations, unions, and other Leftist special interest groups will do what they can to advance her enterprises.

Hats off to Hillary. Like that serial groper to whom she’s married, she really knows how to use people.

No matter what they do, the Klintoons have an unshakable base of support, particularly in the media.

My local Sam's Club have taken down their big display and moved the book to the regular book section. I know they got a hundred copies in and I counted eight-seven on the racks now now priced at $15.27.

Nice work. I was in B&N -- definitly not to buy the (puke) book -- when I went to the cashier to pay for my purchases, the book was displayed on the back shelf of the checkout.

I questioned the clerk....she said they were almost sold out. I asked how many copies they had. She didn't know.

There was a big sticker on Hillary's book. I asked the clerk if B&N always marked new books 30% off. She said they always mark "best-sellers" 30% off. That was odd I told her. You'd think it'd be just the opposite that books in demand would go at full price and slow movers would be discounted.

"She says, "you know" like in almost
every paragraph, you know? "

I have noticed the same thing along with the umms. She is a huge figment of the medias imaginationas far as her intellectual superiority. She is by no means , a viable contender for president as will become apparent once the love fest is over in a presidential race. Besides , even most "normal" democrats have no desire to go down the road they were on for 8 years with the goon squad in charge.

You have touched on the really important point.
Hollywood (Motion Picture Association, the big studios, etc) support Democratic politicians, and especially Presidents.

Usually they do so because the Democrats are usually very liberal and allow the Movie and TV producers to produce/sell and make tons of money from whatever filth they want to spew on the public (granted also is that we watch it).

They provide donations to these politicians in kind.
Other forms of support that Presidents and other politicians give the Producers is in the form of laws or the sidestepping of laws. Deals are made and bad people go free.

Republican politicians have a tendency to be more conservative and have higher moral standards. They usually push for more restrictive standards for broadcast and movies. The public has a tendency to follow the lead of the President as well.

Sure the media supports the Clintons. The Clintons sponsored an attitude for the public of lewd behavior and lack of responsibility for their actions. The public accepted this, and Hollywood benefits.

It's hard for the public to be upset over the behavior of Hollywood actors and actresses, producers and filmmakers, and over the sexual content of movies, TV, and Music Videos when the person with the office of highest respect in the United States is suspected to be a RAPIST/MURDERER/THEIF/INTERN-ON-KNEES/COKEHEAD.

You will find that any politician that has no moral values, lies, cheats and steals, will be HIGHLY VALUED by the following:

Motion Picture Association (Jack Valenti - who has more power than any president (think --JFK and Marylyn Monroe!!!)
Time-Warner, and all TV syndicates
MTV

That and her annoying monotone speaking. Simply awful.

BTW people would see me as a brain surgeon if I didn't have to perform surgery and I didn't have to answer any surgical questions, but my friends kept telling everyone that I was the world's greatest brain surgeon...just call me Dr. Fargo...

Just for the heck of it, I called a Borders that's a couple of miles from here. Asked the woman who answered how sales were going on Lyi. . . I mean, Living History. Said she didn't really know, but she'd be happy to put a copy on hold for me since they have quite a supply.

Is that what's called an oxymoron?

Another reason, I'd submit, is that Hollywood types live in a make-believe world much of the time. And what is more make-believe than the hope that socialism actually works?

Add to that a guilt because you're paid big bucks for doing next to nothing and it's easier to understand why so many Lefties are in show biz.

What make it so astonishing is that these people want to be used by her, like she mesmerizes them. I don't understand it.

<< Web Hubbell wouldn't like it? >>

You can tell by the startled look on Chelsea Clinton's kisser that Web Hubbell already did like it.

Or was drunk at the time and didn't know who it was.

Maybe a small part of the answer is that she's the embodiment of their deepest aspiration - an unAmerican socialist who'll make people do what's "best" for them whether they want to or not.

Some guys still use that "I was drunk and didn't know what I was doing" defense. Maybe down Little Rock way, it passes for an original.

I'm still waiting to see what happens on Amazon.Com. Last Wednesday I checked and the BEST her book was doing was #13 in Virginia and didn't even register at any other geographic location (not even in Manhattan). Someone said the geographic stats refresh every week. If so, then those stats have until tomorrow to refresh. It will be VERRRRRY INTERTESTING to see what those geographic sales stats for her book reveal tomorrow.

That's a great detective job you've done. There's something that happens to folks who come in contact with the Klintoons: They start lying like banshees.

I look forward to seeing what the real stats will be. Thanks so much for the info.
