This morning I stumbled on an HBO special which Oliver Stone put together. I don't even know what it was called, but he went to the mideast, right before the last Passover massacre, and actually interviewed ALL the players, Barak, Netanyahu, Sharon, Arafat and leaders of Hamas, etc. It was fascinating. If you could stomach Stone for awhile, check it out. It was very interesting and very frightening you can't walk away from it thinking there will ever be a negotiated peace.

Your "idea" means destroying the Israeli economy and the tax base that supports the IDF. Good thinking.

Does anyone have the FR thread that list all the TV streaming for the net? The thread ran during the Iraq War.

I am horrified at what is going on there. I support Israel. I am afraid it will lead to nuclear war, and the destruction of innocent Israelis. I do not want that to happen.

I cannot see any of the "peace plans" working, because only the Israelis want peace. I would, impulsively rather see Israel have another homeland where they could live free of this senseless terrorsim, but realize this is not realistic.

If that is not possible, I would like to see those of us in the rest of the world open our homes to civilians from Israel until the armies of the willing join the Israeli army to fight this out with the radical Islamists. But, I fear nuclear war there...

Once the Palestinians are resettled into other middle-eastern countries, and these have accepted and given up on the idea of a Palestinian nation, then they can return. I also demand that the Islamic world give up on the notion of pushing Israel off the map.

But, i would rather see Israel moved than see them be annihilated. I know that is poltically naive, but it is my heart's wish that not one more Israeli suffer. I guess I do not trust the rest of the democracies to do what is needed to help Israel, and I fear the consequences if they do.

I am also fed up with people calling me names for expressing my feelings, frustration, and thoughts on this.

We have had years of "peace-processes" started by US presidents, etc... none have accomplished much. I knew back when Carter was pulling his stunt that it wouldn't work in the long run.

Students keep getting blown up on their way home from school. Families get blasted to smithereens when out to a holiday lunch. This can't go on. People shouldn't have to live this way. We wouldn't stand for it in this country. Why can't we come up with a better solution to this horror!

Actually, McCoy says this of Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI, "He was the last, best hope for peace in the galaxy."(they might have said universe, but it should have been galaxy)

I think ST VI was out before Babylon 5. In any event, I'm sure that line was taken from a historical event or quote.

I was responding to mark's post, in which I thought he was suggesting that we just let nuclear war happen over there...

Hamas in cease fire talks
MANAMA June 13.
In battling the extremist Palestinian organisation, Hamas, Israel appears to be reinforcing its armed campaign with discreet behind-the-scenes talks mediated by Egypt.

According to media reports, the Egyptian intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, began talks with the Hamas in Gaza on Thursday with the aim of persuading the group to hold fire against Israelis for a period of one year.

Israel has rejected the Hamas' earlier proposal for a three-month ceasefire, as it apprehends that the militants will use this period to regroup.

The U.S. is fully backing the Egyptian mediation, as it does not want to get directly involved in talks with the Hamas. According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, the lawyer of the detained Palestinian leader, Marwan Barghouti, is expected to convey a message on behalf of Mr. Barghouti and Khaled Mashall, the head of Hamas' political bureau, to Mr. Suleiman.

Pardon me. Missed the context, but my comments still stand. They address the sentiments you've been relaying.

If Israel moves again, it is equal to annihilation. The Islamofascists will just follow them to wherever they go. It's what they do.

"The U.S. is fully backing the Egyptian mediation"

What happened to not negotiating with terrorism?

This is how the US backs the destruction of Israel.

Suppose Hamas agrees to a cease fire for a year. The US pressures Israel to give concessions being that the situation is quiet.

What happens after a year, or two, or three, or more, when Israel has given those concessions, and the terrorists are well rested?

When Andrew Jackson drove the Cherokees out of the eastern US into the western territories, one group of Cherokees stayed. How did they do it? They had, years and years prior, surrendered any claim of title to the conquered land. This group -- diligent, hard-working, smart, and persevering went and earned the white man's money and bought their old land back, fair and square. They still had to fight it out, but they owned the land according to what had become THE law of the land. The white man's law and his money got it for them -- not just some treaty.

In any land, there can only be one law.

It does not matter if Israel "moved." These people are anti-Semitic. Anti-Semitism has no borders. And when Israel moves, they will gain resources (unless Israel gets rid of all its economy, factories, farms, etc.)

Well, as a well-read Christian, I am very familiar with the line of Christian belief that Revelation is seen as inevitable. The problem I have with that way of thinking is that is absolves us from personal responsibility.

I cannot see how my desire to have the Israelis and all Jews to live in peace is anti-semitic? My notion of how to achieve that for them may be politically unacceptable to all, as is plainly seen by the responses to my first post, but it is still my obligation to speak it.

I do not understand a God who calls the shots. I believe He expects me to do my best to right wrongs, to help others. Had I lived in Europe, I would have hidden as many as I possibly could from such bestiality, and if i got killed for it, so be it.

We have to try to stop evil. We have no right to stand by. God expects more of us, even as He works his plan.

You see, this is what I was trying to tell people, this wishy washy policy. What will happen then after Israel is up to 1967 borders, well, the PA terrorist regime (which will still be there as we do not view them as terrorist), will invite more terrorists, etc. and then a campaign will begin to make Israel withdraw to the 1948 lines, which have Israel be in 3, non-connected pieces. This baloney of a roadmap comes again, and Israel goes back to those lines. Then after that, it is easy to destroy Israel as it is surronded. This is THE PLO PLAN. THIS ROADMAP AIDES THAT PLAN. THIS IS WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. Pull back to 1967 borders is suicide.

I always hated when Star Wars or Star Trek say "universe" in the context of their political affairs. Even the Galactic Empire in SW was simply not big enough for that lame-ass Admiral to say "We now have the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we use it."
