Your posting completely expresses my thoughts so I won't reiterate, but I will expound a little. Why waste your vote on a LP candidate who has not a chance of winning? You may have to vote for what you consider "the lesser of two evils" when choosing between a Dim and a Republican, but when you vote for the Libertarian candidate, you are essentially not voting at all, and it's usually likely that Dims win because of your third-party vote.

How do you like having the Dims in control? You want them to have it back again? Vote Libertarian then.

We, the people, have a better chance of pushing the GOP candidates to at least take baby steps toward Libertarian goals.

Compromise is not a dirty word.

Unless it involves fundamental, unalienable rights. Then it becomes a dangerous word IMHO.

I guess if you live in California you're screwed either way then. Best you can do I guess is to promote an actual conservative as an alternative to Riordan.

He's what we call a "RINO" - Republican In Name Only. He's anti-gun, pro-abortion, pro-welfare, etc, etc, etc, but for some reason he's still a member of the Republican Party.

I'm hoping we can get Tom McClintock to the front of the line.

The only thing left is to go Independent and third party. I've voted Republican for years, considering it the lesser of two evils. But it's only encouraged them.

Pray mightily for an electable Third candidate to emerge. I wish we could get Rudi to run. I disagree with alot of his policies, but he's electable and could totally change forever the two party stranglehold on this nation.

cool handle.

I was a Libertarian in CA for years. On my last day in CA, I had 30 police officers come by to inspect my car, to be sure that my weapons were properly stored.

When I moved to Texas the local L party wanted to succeed from the Union. I figure that approach has been tried and found wanting. I was lucky enough to live in Ron Paul's district. We got the concealed carry bill, and benefited from the crime rate going down.

I moved back to CA, and in my absence, it seems that half the population has gotten tattoos, piercings, and trashed the schools, and in general lost their mind. They elected Davis, the candidate who most resembled a ferret that I have ever seen.

Still there are budget problems, and since the state doesn't print money, the incompetence of the Dimorats is clear. If the state would grant a tax credit for households with guns, and grant a tax credit to encourage people to get concealed carry permits, the crime rate would go down, and the police/prison costs would drop.

If they would grant vouchers for private schools it would be pretty livable, and people would be able to live near work, instead of trying to live where there is a good local school and commute. That would cut down on highway and traffic expenses.

If they cut the requirement for schools and emergency rooms to provide services for free to illegal aliens, the budget problem would dry up.

So I figure the California Republican baseball team is two players away from winning a pennant. The problem is the two players are Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

Ah-nald might be one, but we need a prolife guy or gal to get the religious folks to the polls. So long as it is not me. If nominated, I will not run. If elected, I will not serve. (if drafted, I will run for the Mexican border!)

It might have been seeing prominent Republicans fighting for more gun control, tobacco legislation and "campaign finance de-form." The neo-cons had taken over the party and I was through. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, the party left me.

Let's show some honesty here.
The Weekly Standard is as close as you can get to the authoratative voice for neocons.
They opposed Gun control, tobacco legislation, and the attack on the first Ammedment. There are plenty of reasons to disagree with them, but these aren't it. The author, either ignorantly or disingenously conflates Moderate Republicans/compromisers with neocos.

The much-hated Clinton "Americorps" program has received hundreds of millions of dollars in additional funding.
Panned multiple times in TWS.

The Department of Education, once a target for elimination by Republicans has a new benefactor, the Republicans. In his first budget, President Bush asked for a 72% increase for primary, secondary and vocational education. With the passage of the "No Child Left Behind Act," the federal government is more involved in local education than ever before.

Ditto.

How about the despised "Gore Tax" - the hidden tax the phone companies are forbidden to list on your bill? The tax Republicans once called "unconstitutional." It's still on the books.
Do a web search.

"Stop wastin your vote!"

Now that's particularly pithy advice, particularly where it concerns the Libertarian Party ...

... the .01% Party.

I have to agree with Nolan's assessment. Although I could never vote libertarian (they are social libertines), I now consider myself a Christian Constitutionalist. An R or a D means nothing if it is not backed by truth and solid moral principles. The Repubs have abandoned many of their moral principles - they have gone soft on gay rights, soft on govt. corruption (Clinton and his cronies got a free ride), soft on limited govt., they are globalists and condone the influx of millions of illegals(I despise libertarianism for the same reason), and soft on confrontation (Republicans are sissies when it comes to standing their ground against the demoncats).

Gary Nolan is a candidate for the Libertarian Party nomination for president.

The "Bob for Emperor" bandwagon will squash him like a bug.

Guys consider the strategy for better or worse of the green party in 2000. They were also saying that reps and dems are the same. They asked for some concessions from Gore before the last election. The dems blew them off. So they targeted the swing states to take enough votes away from Gore to hand Bush the election.

If their strategy worked, the dems will have to guard thier left flank and not go too far toward the middle. If it failed, the dems will continue to ignore them and wind up more in the middle. It's a very distructive game (like chicken), but the only one for far left or far right people to keep thier parties from selling them out (in our election system). Is this the right strategy for the LP?

The other strategy is the standard one, where a constituency tries to jump between dems and reps, forcing them to outbid eachother on how conservative they are. Judging by what's said here about the "rats" I don't see that happening.

A constituency's power over politicians is based only on it's ablity to add and remove support.

Well, now that THAT is out in the open, you do know that you can no longer be in the running for the Nasty Little Clique's union rep to the Unseen Planetary Overlords' Council.

(Hint: you can't be "Unseen" if we know your first name.)
