Attorney Gloria Allred announced Monday that she will represent Amber Frey, the woman who has said she had an affair with Scott Peterson before the death of his wife, Laci.
Allred (pictured, seated at right) said Frey is not only a witness but a "victim" -- of Scott Peterson's "deception."
"Victims are entitled to attorneys, as are witnesses," she said.
Allred commended Frey, 28, of Fresno, Calif., for contacting authorities once she learned of Scott Peterson's marriage and the death of Laci Peterson. Frey has said she did not know Scott Peterson was married during their affair.
"I anticipate an attack on her in the press, and I intend to defend her," Allred said, adding that she will "represent, advise and protect" her client.
She said Frey will give no interviews prior to trial -- "paid or unpaid."
"She has been offered money for interviews, and she has refused and will continue to refuse those offers," Allred said. "We are committed to protecting the integrity of the prosecution, and we will not allow her testimony to be contaminated by offers of money for her story."
Frey spoke briefly, offering condolences to Laci Peterson's family and asking that the media respect her wishes of privacy.
"I expect that I will be asked to testify in this case, and I am prepared to do so," Frey said. "Until that time, I just want to lead a normal life and regain my privacy. I hope that everyone will understand and respect my wishes."
She said she is grateful to Allred for agreeing to represent her.
"This has been a painful and stressful time for me, and I really appreciate her support," Frey said.
Divers Continue To Search SF Bay Waters
Divers are spending a fourth straight day searching San Francisco Bay for more evidence in the Laci Peterson murder investigation.
Officials won't be specific about what they're looking for or what they have found. They simply say they're conducting a follow-up investigation.
Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared in December. Her body and that of her unborn son washed onto a Richmond, Calif., shoreline last month.
Their remains were found several miles north of where Peterson's husband, Scott, said he went fishing on Christmas Eve -- the day he said he last saw his wife.

Amber Frey, 28, also said she has been hounded by news media and tabloids offering her money for her story ever since she came forward about a month after Laci Peterson disappeared.
As a result, she said, she hired celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred to fend off the offers, which she does not intend to accept, and to represent her as a witness.
"In addition to being a witness," Allred told a news conference, "Amber is also a victim of Scott's deception. Victims are entitled to attorneys, as are witnesses."
Frey, a Fresno massage therapist, has said she did not know Peterson was married when she met him in November.

Divers searched the bay for a fourth straight day Monday for more evidence.
Frey spoke clearly at the press conference but appeared nervous. She declined to answer questions and said she would refer all inquiries to Allred.

Ex-lover to testify in Peterson case

The woman who has admitted an affair with Laci Peterson's husband, Scott Peterson, said Monday she expects to testify against her former lover, and she has hired a celebrity attorney to represent her.
Amber Frey, 28, spoke briefly in Los Angeles, appearing before reporters for the first time since her stunning Jan. 24 admission about the romance she said began last November. She says she did not know Peterson was married.
As she did then, Frey expressed sympathy Monday for Laci's family, pleaded for her own privacy and declined to answer questions.
"I don't think it's appropriate to talk about what might be contained in my testimony prior to my being called to the witness stand," said Frey, a Fresno massage therapist and single mother. "Until that time, I just want to lead a normal life and regain my privacy."
With her was Gloria Allred, a Los Angeles victims' rights attorney who has been a radio personality and frequent TV commentator. Among her high-profile cases, Allred represented family members of Nicole Brown Simpson in the O.J. Simpson criminal case.
In a telephone interview with the Times, Allred said she expects Scott Peterson's attorneys to attack Frey's credibility. Allred declined to discuss Frey's role in the criminal case.
"My sense is that she has very important testimony to contribute to the process," said Allred.
Early on, police said they ruled out Frey as a suspect.
Peterson faces double murder charges in the deaths of Laci and their unborn son. The two corpses washed up separately last month on the East Bay shoreline, near where Peterson said he went fishing Christmas Eve before returning to Modesto and reporting his wife missing.
On Monday, Modesto police continued to lead an underwater search that they renewed Friday for evidence in the Bay.
Allred said Frey has refused many offers of money for her story and would continue to do so. She has been hounded by the media. Allred said she was hired in part to fend off those requests.
"This has all been very emotionally painful for her," said Allred. "It's affected her family life and her personal life in every aspect."
Allred is well-known for seeking out roles in high-profile cases. She injected herself into Paula Jones' lawsuit against former President Bill Clinton.

1994 Murder an Unsolved Mystery
Jenny Lin

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- It's a ritual they perform every weekend, a graveside visit by loving parents who grieve for the daughter they lost nine years ago.
John and Mei-Lian Lin have dedicated their lives to daughter Jenny's memory. "The grief never stops," says Lin. "It will never stop. The must frustrating thing, is not having closure on this."
Jenny was 14-years-old, an A-student and talented musician at her junior high school in Castro Valley.
On the afternoon of May 27, 1994 her killer tied her with duct tape and stabbed her to death.
Jennys father discovered the grisly scene. "I found her lying in pool of blood inside our master bathroom," he says quietly. I was just totally devastated."

Old Bones and New Clues in Murder Case
Posted: May 19, 2003 at 7:47 p.m.
MILL VALLEY (KRON) -- Marin County investigators, hoping to generate new leads in an old case of a missing, or murdered child, have turned to the victim's bones and the unusual artistry of a forensic sculptor.
On a table near filing cabinets, the fresh face of a child looks out from an old dry skull that has haunted the Marin County Coroner's office for nearly three decades. Who was she? How did she die? And why didn't anyone ever come looking for her?
"Because it's a child, and because it's been so long," says Marin County coroner Ken Holmes, "it just seems somebody out there should have missed this child 30 years ago, and we're going to try and get her identified."
A young man walking a path near the Mill Valley golf course found a child's skull and a piece of leg bone there on June 20, 1974. But despite a well publicized investigation at the time, the girl and the circumstances of her death remained a mystery.
Now, Coroner Holmes hopes her skull will finally give him the answers he's looking for. He commissioned sculptor Gloria Nusse for an unusual sculpture.
