WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Boeing Co. has won a $14.92 billion contract to design and test the tanks and weapons of the future as part of the Pentagon (news - web sites)'s plan to modernize the U.S. Army, The Washington Post reported on Friday.
|
The Pentagon's Defense Acquisition Board approved the contract, moving into the second phase of the Future Combat System late on Wednesday, the newspaper reported, citing a source close to the program.
The Post said the Pentagon declined to comment, saying an acquisition decision memorandum would be issued next week.
A spokesman for Boeing was not immediately available for comment early on Friday.
Boeing is developing the Future Combat System with Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), the report said.
According to the Post, the team will work to transform from concept to reality a networked system in which every piece of equipment on the battlefield would be connected by about 33 million lines of software code.
Citing industry officials, the Washington Post said the total value of the contract could eventually exceed $100 billion, but Boeing and SAIC would share that with hundreds of subcontractors, including General Dynamics.
... BUT:
Word is, for the last few years, Boeing has been quietly outsourcing more and more departments, but this is the backbone of their Customer Services division... No word yet on where this work willl go, probably overseas. 270 employees affected.
Your military tax dollars at work, fellow readers. Probably going straight to India.
Hope your sons and daughters won't have to read a US Army mil-spec addendum in 'Indian restaraunt menu English' while under enemy fire.
