Has anyone heard of someone getting fired for posting a comment to FR from work?

Chances are, your employer knows where you have been. Generally speaking, if your performance is excellent, you will get a pass (nobody wants to get rid of a good worker). However, if your performance is lousy, or even just "average", the company could well use your internet surfing as a reason to fire you.

No, but it wouldn't surprise me. The workplace is for work and there are probably company policies and guidelines concerning use of the internet, etc.

I suppose it could happen, depending on the employer's published policy on such things.
I know people who have been reprimanded by their employer for sending/receiving private email at work.

Even if his work is good, if the manager is a major Leftist, and reads something that he wrote that gets the manager's nose out of joint, there could be problems

Yes, mine says limited personal use OK, no objectionable material, threatening, etc. A few posts seems limited to me.

The ideal solution would be to get a job that pays you hourly for FReeping.
I've sent out resumes, but no responses yet.

I am the network manager where I work. We monitor our employees use of the internet. You have no right to privacy: your employer is paying for the pipe, the equipment and your time.
Now if others are doing the same thing and do not get in trouble for it, you may have a case for discrimintation; otherwise, you are toast.

I haven't figured out if _Jim gets paid by the hour or the number of gov't supporting replies he posts.

It isn't encouraged where I work, and for good reason - it's a MAJOR time-killer. My boss cuts me slack because I'm often just waiting for something to happen and spend more than 40 hours there on an average week anyhow. But it is very bad policy to push this or to make it obtrusive in any way.
But it can be a very nice resource when something's breaking fast in your area and the local sites are jammed. That has happened to me several times - an earthquake, a week of rioting, and of course the events surrounding the 11th of September, 2001. They were coming to me for information then, and I was coming to FR.

That would be dishonest and againts policy. I don't think I was against policy. Limited personal use. Nobody knows what that means.

We just had a bunch of folks fired for policy stuff. I suspect (no offical knowledge!!!) that it was porn and making money. I am just a FR who really needs to keep his job.
