Bush And The USS Abraham Lincoln

Before this flap is over, Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) will probably rue the day he ever tried to turn President Bush's aircraft carrier visit into a partisan issue. Reporters have rushed to the history books and are finding that U.S. presidents all the way back to President Tyler in 1844 have visited U.S. warships. Teddy Roosevelt visited at least six ships as president and F.D.R. spent copious amounts of time on 12 different vessels. J.F.K. toured the USS Oriskany in 1963 and later spent a night on the USS Kitty Hawk. Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Carter and Ronald Reagan all visited and slept aboard U.S. naval vessels. Finally, that well known "dove," Bill Clinton, even spent time on the USS George Washington.

None of the visits were particularly controversial, but Bush hatred is so all consuming on the political left, that the President's visit to the Lincoln is seen as scandalous!

The White House And Gay Rights

On Friday, the Log Cabin Republicans, a homosexual group, was given a special White House briefing by top Administration officials. The 200 attendees paid back the hospitality by attacking a member of the Republican Senate leadership, Senator Rick Santorum, after the briefing in interviews with the media. One Log Cabin member told the New York Times, "What Rick Santorum said was stupid. It's not really representative of what the Republican Party is moving toward. I think we are the future of the Republican Party, people like us."

If the Log Cabin Republicans are the "future of the Republican Party," it will be a future without pro-family voters. No party can nor should it even try to be all things to all people. The future of the Grand Old Party is dependent on consistency - lower taxes, smaller government, strong national defense, protection of innocent life and respect for traditional family values. If you would like to let the White House know how you feel about the "future of the Republican Party," call the White House comment line at (202) 456-1414 or send an e-mail to president@whitehouse.gov.

I can think of better ways to get the swing vote without alienating your base.

He's obviously lying. Again.

Andrew Sullivan is in a tizzy over homosexuals getting shuttled by the Republican party.

Gary Bauer is a RINO.

Will he back anybody but Bush again for the Presidency?

Well, it probably offends me as much as anyone, but I don't think it means very much. I wouldn't take it too seriously. Bush is unfailingly polite when he can be, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything. He was polite to the clintons at his inauguration, even though they abused his good nature.

Yeah. Because we love what you've done to the Democrat party.

What makes you think he's a RINO? I like his views regarding family, and his forign policy views regarding China, which is consistant with his views on Cuba. I doubt he will back anyone other then Bush considering there are no credible or known challengers to Bush for the primary, and no McCain is not running.

Santorum's words were not carefully chosen, but I am growing weary of seeing and hearing him mis-quoted by others.

He was talking about the *principle* of whether the government has the right to regulate "private" sexual behaviors. His point was that if the court takes the position that it does not, that opens the doors to all kinds of things -- some of which we may not consider to be acceptable.

He did *not* equate homosexual behavior with incest. That is a misrepresentation of what he said.

His mistake was that he left himself open to that allegation.

++++
I don't think so. The rest of us do not plan to base our political activism on sexual abnormalities.

Be kind unto all people. No problems with that. No problems with a homosexual heading AIDS research. I do hope and pray that we are not forced by law to have homosexuals around our children, however. And since they have this peculiar aliance with liberal judges, the gloves are off until the courtrooms turn sane again, as far as I'm concerned. FReegards....

I wonder what most people understand this to really mean - "briefing by top Administration officials." ;-)

Gary Bauer would have a lot more credibility on 'gay' issues is he had chosen someone other than John McCain to support for president.

Gary should go back to his job at IHOP.

This whole food fight between the Religious Right and the Log Cabin Republicans needs to end. It is alienating the base and swing voters who are straight but believe in gay rights. Meeting with the Log Cabin Republicans is not a sin. And to moderate Republicans, there is no need to "put distance" between the GOP and Christian leaders. Religious conservatives are an important bloc in the party who are constantly misrepresented in the mainstream press. Hopefully, things cool down where we can actually agree that sitting down and talking with one another is not a "non-starter".
