A number of groups have threatened to boycott MCI (search) if it doesn't disconnect Glover from its current ad campaign, according to reports. The telephone giant said in a statement that it is reviewing the situation.

"We chose Danny Glover because of his high consumer appeal and ratings. In fact, these ads have produced some of the highest likeability scores for any of our spokespeople ever," the statement read.

Be sure to let MCI know how you feel about Mr. Glover. I did.

I cancelled my service. It probably doesn't make a dent in their bottom line, but it satisfies my desire not to reward these anti-American types with my hard earned dough.

Bull! Who can name Glover's last movie? Even before becoming a has-been, he was nothing but a glorified supporting actor.

Glover has given me a wonderful gift.

For the first time in my life, I actually look forward to the inevitable telemarketers for MCI to call. You wouldn't believe how long I keep them on the line as I complain about about Glover.

If they try to get ME (LOL) off the line, I then ask for their supervisor. It doesn't get any better!

I tried signing up for the MCI Neighborhood service before Danny Glover started advertising for it... they never bothered to turn on the service, then told me it was because I didn't send in a deposit (that they never asked for)... then told me there was a problem with my phone service... and held my deposit for 6 months after I gave up.

Oh yeah, my Worldcom stock lost money too...

Mine too, it went from $60.00 per share to $.95!

Besides having a corrupt leader in Ebbers, the company seems to continue to be tone deaf to the public, either that or they listen to ad agencies who subscribe to the "Jayson Blair" philosophy of how companies should operate.

I got a call from MCI last night, asking me to change our long distance. I said "Not as long as you use Danny Glover as a spokesperson." He said, "He is no longer a spokesperson for MCI." I asked "Are you sure?" He checked with his "supervisor" and came back on the line to tell me Danny Glover was indeed STILL a spokesperson for MCI.

I told him to get back to be when Glover was gone.

They pulled a similar stunt on us years ago and we never forgave them for it. I wouldn't sign on to MCI if my only other option was a string stretched between two tin cans.

"They have signed up half a million customers for the program that Danny Glover was advertising,"

But the real question is, how many customers did they lose?

I did. Here's the series of communications:

ME: I have had MCI service in the past, but I would never use MCI ever again and would not even consider it as a provider of long distance or local service so long as Danny Glover is a spokesman for MCI.

Danny Glover is an anti-American, leftist radical, and just because he looks good and speaks well does not mean he's an appropriate spokesman for a company that tries to serve real Americans, not the Hollywood nutball crowd.

1st response--

MCI Flunky: Thank you for contacting MCI ® e-Customer Service.

We sincerely value your opinion about our new spokesperson.

Just like any other citizen, Mr. Glover is entitled to express his own personal views and opinions. But please understand, Mr. Glover's personal views are his own and do not represent the views of MCI. As has always been our policy, MCI does not comment or take positions on social and/or socio-political issues and views.

MCI does proudly contribute to a variety of local, state and national charities which help build and strengthen communities. More specifically, the MCI WorldCom Foundation focuses on proactively supporting a core of education and technology initiatives by forming partnerships with selected non-profit organizations around the country.

Again, thank you for communicating with MCI.

We are always available to discuss your concerns and help ensure that you make the most of MCI's e-Customer Service. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please visit our website at www.mci.com.

Sincerely,

Tamara

My response:

Mr. Glover is entitled to express his views under the 1st amendment. When you hire him to be your spokesperson, you hold him out as someone you approve of. You give him credibility, as well as money. I have a problem with that. There are many people who are not anti-American who you could have hired. I find it odd that you hired someone so radical.

Glover is so far left on the political spectrum that he thinks Castro is a sell-out. He thinks our society and our President are racist. He is not a liberal democrat, he is way beyond that. He supports leftist dictators wherever they remain (thankfully, in few places) and he supports dictators against the US whenever there is a conflict between the 2.

I have a first amendment right, too, and I will exercise mine to convince anyone I come in contact with from ever using any MCI services so long as Danny Glover is MCI's spokesman.

Times have changed. We have been attacked, and we are at war, and some of the elite in Hollywood and the media have chosen to be on the other side. Your support for Mr. Glover indicates that MCI as a corporation is on the other side. I won't give you my money, and I hope you complete the slide to BK. It will be a good lesson to all those lilly-white corporate boards to quit assuaging their consciences by hiring radicals who are antithetical to their own customer base.

-------------------------

Their response:

Thank you for contacting MCI ® e-Customer Service.

We take all feedback and perspectives under careful consideration and respect the feelings and viewpoints you have shared with us about our new spokesperson, Danny Glover.

Mr. Glover's personal political views were not known by us when he was hired for this work. In fact, at the time we first contacted him, he had recently received the Marian Anderson Award which honors artists whose leadership benefits humanity.

Our consumer research indicates overwhelming support for Mr. Glover with extremely high appeal ratings. However, we do continually monitor consumer opinions on all of our advertising campaigns and factor new developments into our business decisions.

We sincerely regret the offense you feel with respect to our advertising with Danny Glover.

We are always available to discuss your concerns and help ensure that you make the most of MCI's e-Customer Service. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please visit our website at www.mci.com.

Sincerely,

Dave

A spokesperson for Glover, however, denied that MCI was ready to cut the line. "The relationship between Mr. Glover and MCI is categorically solid and successful and is continuing," the spokesperson told MSNBC's Jeannette Walls.

TRANSLATION: We have a contract with MCI and they're gonna honor it...or buy us out!

Dang! Why didn't I think of asking for the supervisor?! I, too, was so happy a few days ago to get a solicitor's call from them so I could tell them Danny Glover = No MCI. My solicitor/caller hung up really fast.
