A Continent Of Brats
The Washington Dispatch | Martin Kelley

Posted on 05/10/2003 6:46:19 PM PDT by Cathryn Crawford

Anti-Semitic attacks in Europe are up a whopping 75% since 9/11, according to ‘The Guardian’, no friend of Israel. On Sunday 4th May, Tam Dalyell (pronounced ‘Dee-ell) MP, the ‘Father of The House of Commons’, was reported as saying that he believes Tony Blair is surrounded by a ‘Jewish cabal’. In the ‘Daily Telegraph’ of 8th May, the English novelist Margaret Drabble is given licence to engage in spurious anti-Americanism, or more properly anti-Republicanism, in an article entitled ‘Why I loathe America’. The Prime Minister of Italy, Silvio Berlusconi, is being tried for corruption. The appointment of a new Governor of the European Central Bank is dependent upon the French candidate being exonerated on corruption charges. One of the reasons Jacques Chirac stood for a second term as French President was that he could retain Presidential immunity against corruption allegations surrounding his alleged operation of a slush fund while Mayor of Paris.

Back over in Blighty, Tony Blair leads a group of representatives one of whom, George Galloway, is under investigation for allegedly profiting from dealings with a foreign enemy power. Another, John McDonnell, compared Vladimir Putin’s deployment of gas to end the Moscow theatre siege with the late Saddam’s gassing of the Halabja Kurds (BBC’s ‘Despatch Box’). Vlad the Inhaler’s conduct over Iraq is beginning to justify George W. Bush’s analysis of ‘Once a KGB man, always a KGB man’, but suggesting that he meant to kill 5,000 people is ever so slightly over the top.

In Amsterdam, it’s reported to be quite difficult for European females to use public swimming baths without being harassed by unassimilated Muslim males. Greta Duisenberg, wife of Wim Duisenberg the last European Central Bank President, doesn’t have any qualms over flying a Palestinian flag from her windows. Indeed Peter Nielsen, a Danish correspondent on Canadian journalist Mark Steyn’s website, reports that in cases involving family law amongst unassimilated Muslims in Denmark, the Danish civil courts are employing the Sharia law.

The economy of Germany is a disaster, and is only going to get worse through the intractable opposition of organised labour to any kind of reform of a system that enables workers in some circumstances to take up to two years paid sickness leave. France has had to scrap the 35-hour working week because it was too limiting even for their stagnant economy. France has also created Europe’s first no go areas for whites, the ‘banlieues’ of Paris, Marseilles and Lille as a result of housing North African immigrants in ghettoes devoid of hope or opportunity and with only welfare to sustain them.

All in all, it’s not a pretty picture.

The defining moment of political consciousness in my life has been 9/11. That day was as warm and fine in Scotland as it was on the eastern seaboard of America. I was 3,000 miles away, but that day I truly felt fear. Not fear of a terrorist attack in my neighbourhood, but fear of how America would respond. The restraint shown by the current administration is a credit to it. Very shortly afterwards came the reports of how perfidious the House of Saud had been, and I became enraged that the depth of their corruption had been common knowledge in government circles without ever being widely advertised.

However, the attitude of the European elites hasn’t changed since that day. They saw history being made before their eyes, thousands slaughtered in the streets, and their selfishness is such that it made no impact on them. As elitist as it is possible to be in Britain, Tam Dalyell is a perfect example of why we’re still democrats. An old boy of our most prestigious school, Eton College, Dalyell is heir to an estate founded in 1612. He has been Labour MP for Linlithgow for over 40 years, earning him the ‘Father of the House’ title. ‘Man About the House’ would be more appropriate, given that his record is testament to longevity rather than achievement. Some might think it odd that a sprig of the aristocracy can take the equivalent of £56,000 a year from the taxpayers for forty years for talking about socialism, but that’s democracy. Dalyell is now hailed as a ‘great parliamentarian’, while his principal achievement is accusing the Royal Navy of a war crime in sinking the Argentine destroyer General Belgrano during the Falklands War. In London’s ‘Spectator’ of 17th August 2002, he accused the Scottish judges responsible for the Lockerbie trial of convicting Abdelbaset al-Megrahi on the basis that to acquit him would leave the Scottish legal system open to ridicule. The fact that Megrahi was convicted because he was guilty and that he was lazy in covering his tracks is a subject for another day. However, Dalyell’s assertion of corruption on the part of a legal system that was scrupulously fair to an accused person appearing before its courts in extraordinary circumstances is absolutely par for the course. Dalyell is a nasty old man, and his nastiness has found perfect expression in his comments over a ‘Jewish cabal’. Firstly, they exhibit the innate anti-Semitism of the British Establishment. Secondly, they show he is not a true democrat as he was protesting ‘Likud-nic” influence, forgetting that the Likud Party is itself democratic.

Why are we like this as a continent, because believe me this malaise is continental on its scale? For a large part its because we’ve been cosseted and protected by America. We’ve not had to pay too much attention to our defence – the good citizens of Cedar Rapids, Iowa have been prepared to do it for us. Britain spends twice as much on defence as its nearest European rival, and we have only two aircraft carriers, both of which would probably fit into the Dwight D. Eisenhower. Strength of that kind breeds resentment, particularly when faced with cultures that take pride in nationalism. Nationalism is the real curse of Europe. In France it’s ‘Vive La France!’ in Scotland it’s ‘We Are The People!’ but it’s all a product of the same sewer. Writers like Margaret Drabble, while probably receiving a fee from the ‘Telegraph’ for her poison, would never turn down the opportunity of lecturing at Yale or Columbia. If a good job came up for Wim Duisenberg at the UN in New York, Greta would enjoy shopping at Tiffany’s with all the rest of the despotic hangers-on. This kind of hatred of an entity that you are attracted to is bad for your mental health.

We’re a continent of brats, spoiled, arrogant brats too keen on maintaining ourselves in style without a care for the rest of the world. Why else would the government of France (motto Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) assist a homicidal corner boy like Saddam Hussein build a nuclear reactor, and then possibly supply him with weaponry into the bargain? Why else are the Belgians intent on prosecuting Ariel Sharon and Tommy Franks, ignoring the actions of ‘Mrs. Anthrax’ and Tariq Aziz? It is because we hate the force that keeps us safe. We cannot find any enthusiasm even to vote, and so the most elitist organisation in Europe, the European Commission, grabs more power for itself to pursue the schemes and grand plans of failed French and German politicians. It all makes me sick.

Was it Mr Steyn who said "All hat, no cabal?"

I thought the idea of Blair being surrounded by a cabal was pretty creative. What will they think of next?

Sounds like their answer to Sen. Robert Byrd, (D-KKK).

Corruption's been a way of life in Italy for more than 2000 years. It's just that they're more honest about it. It certainly not worse than here. Somehow Europe will be OK.

Excellent rant. It looks like the europeans had better do some real soul searching before it's too late. The Brits are great when it comes to defense, but they're becoming so socialist that they are merely hanging on by a thread. God bless the noble souls who are silently fighting for the life of Britain.

The "Force" is the God of the Nation that keeps them safe. Israel does not defend Europe. The only common thing between America and Israel is its God.

Yes, it really is a spiritual battle.
