Personally, I think you were pretty close. My guess is that she was a specialist in infectious diseases, but not necessarily Canadian, and not specialized in Ebola.

I think she was on the inside in Hong Kong, close to the initial outbreak at Prince of Wales Hospital, and got SARS herself. Remember, a number of top medical personnel got infected, even including the top doc in Hong Kong and the person who managed the chain of hospitals that included Prince of Wales. I doubt she was either of these, but was one of the researchers.

We still need to reconcile the Dutch experiment where they gave the monkeys the suspected coronavirus and they came down with SARS.

That is why I think we have SARS identified. However, there is undoubtedly a LOT left to learn.

>>Please offer up any ideas that you may have.<<

As you say people are simple. She wanted somebody to talk to about it, and couldn't find enough interested people in her ordinary pool of contacts.

Eventually this well either became too dry or she found one that was deeper.

She may have continued past the point of diminishing returns due to a desire to spread the news, and once the news was out, felt that she no longer had an obligation to continue.
