Dear Friend of TVC:

This Thursday, May 1st, the U.S. House of Representatives will be voting on amendments to H.R. 1298, a global AIDS bill that will provide $15 billion dollars to fight AIDS during the next five years.

TVC is urging you to contact your U.S. Representative immediately and ask that he or she vote YES on two key amendments:

Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) is offering an amendment that requires that 33% of direct U.S. aid should go to abstinence-until-marriage programs. The nation of Uganda has emphasized abstinence and marital faithfulness and it has actually reduced the spread of AIDS since 1990.

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) is offering a conscience clause amendment that will protect religious groups from having to distribute condoms as a requirement for receiving federal tax dollars. This amendment is supported by the Catholic Bishops Conference and most pro-family groups. For additional details on H.R. 1298, read our special report: H.R. 1298 Special Report

Please contact your legislators immediately by using our CapWiz service. We have already provided the text for your letter. All you have to do is locate your Representative by zip code, fill out the required personal information, and CapWiz will do the rest. CLICK HERE.

Don’t delay! Action is needed immediately on these important amendments!

Sincerely, TVC Staff

I think that 15 billion dollars could be used better at home. I do agree that if this must be spent, those additions are only right.

Better yet, tell your representative to vote against this bill. The GOP controlled House seems to have forgotten that it should be cutting spending, not throwing more money down foreign ratholes.

If the TVC is for something, I can usually predict I'll be against it. In this case, if that much money is going to be spent at all (what a waste), then something better than 'just say no' must be prescribed. That means condoms.
