Let's all remember this the next time we see a Hollywood movie starting on TV with the phrase, "based on a true story." It's like buying expensive jewelry from a guy on the street who assures you that the ring he's selling you is based on the idea of a real diamond.

Let's all remember this the next time we see a Hollywood movie starting on TV with the phrase, "based on a true story."

That phrase is almost never used anymore. It has been replaced by the phrase, "inspired by actual events."

This allows the writers to take creative liberties and also frees Hollywood from having to pay and obtain permission from the person whose story is being told.
