While attention has been focused on the Laci Peterson case in recent days here in Modesto, several Patriots of Modesto continued their campaign to focus attention on the need to Support Our Troops. Blue Skies and 70 degree temperatures today as 25 Patriotic Citizens once again gathered on the corner of Standiford Ave and Sisk Rd. VFW Post 3199 provided flags of the armed forces, Old Glory, POW/MIA, Korea and Vietnam Wars.
Proud parents and loved ones of our nation's heroes presented posters and photos of their family members serving in the Middle East. One Mom and Dad proudly displayed their 2-star banner. Salute from this vet to those family members and those serving.
At the heavily traveled intersection, newbie FReeper and VFW member LarryA passed out red Buddy Poppies with a yellow ribbon along with American Flags he had printed to the folks waiting for the traffic light to change. Some of those folks passing by presented LarryA with a donation to help defray the costs he has incurred. LarryA has received a couple of requests for several hundred of the poppy and ribbons from individuals around town.
The support we received today was once again LOUD. Horns honking, shouts of "URAH!" made our efforts worthwhile. Each "BEEP BEEP!!!" is like saying "Sic em" to a bulldog. Kidda appropriate for Marine LarryA. Today, 3 young ladies stopped by with sodas for our group as a way of saying thanks for our efforts.
Our numbers have fallen in the past couple weeks but not our spirit. And judging from the support of the passing motorists, our troops are not forgotten. Not a single anti was observed today. No flip-offs. Only thumbs-up, waves, and an elderly Grandma was observed pumping a clenched fist in the air with a big smile as she passed by. When ya got the support of grandmas, you must be doing somethin' right.
