Apparently, this story is news everywhere BUT the Ithaca Journal, which still has covered it.

''I could easily point out, for instance, that I am not a peasant but I teach about peasants in Third World countries,''Why are people on the left always so quick to talk about peasants? [And of course, to make sure no onw mistakes them for one]

Of course, libs would scream bloody murder if 94% of the faculty were Republican.
To: Behind Liberal Lines
Of course it's diverified, it had both kinds of people.
Liberal and Progressive.

--this has been researched several times in the last twenty years at the University of Colorado-Boulder with nearly the same results--

Can anyone say "Political Affirmative Action"? We should demand an EQUAL number of conservatives and liberals on EVERY college campus!

In otherwords, they are even more radical then we are!I think we ought to claim the word radical for ourselves. I'm tired of it having been co-opted by socialist hippiecrats who hate our country and have a not-so hidden agenda for cultural engineering. This wonderful word ought to apply to we who have such passion for our liberty that we would put our lives on the line to uphold and preserve it. What is so radical about following, sheeplike, the Hollywood herd?
Say it with me: I am a radical, and I am right!

"Ithaca College Faculty 94% Liberal, and Think It's OK" That is a vicious lie. The 6% left over eats them alive.

''I could easily point out, for instance, that I am not a peasant but I teach about peasants in Third World countries,'' she said.'
OK, and does she ADVOCATE the peasant's point of view? Or is she like the flaming liberal history professor I had years ago who taught the Republican point of view like this: "The French aristocracy before the revolution was completely out of touch with their people and the world, just like the Republican party today."
One can teach ABOUT something all day long; students need to learn about the different points of view from the perspective that they are both valid.

1.
''I do believe Ithaca College can do a better job of diversifying its faculty, most of whom are white males,'' Barlas said. Yes, certainly. Everyone knows white males can only teach from the perspective of the white male. We must have diversity of faculty to teach diversely.
2. Barlas said a professor does not need to be a card-carrying member of a political party to teach a variety of perspectives.
''I could easily point out, for instance, that I am not a peasant but I teach about peasants in Third World countries,'' she said.
Well, certainly. We don't need diversity of faculty in order to teach diversely.
This is the same woman, of course. The difference between the statements stems from the fact that she's talking out of both sides of her mouth.

I wonder how much of this is self-selection. The study ignored the sciences and applied departments. How many Republicans actually want to be faculty members in the humanities? This probably has a lot to do with the leftward trend on many campuses.
In the early sixties Ithaca College was confined to some decaying buildings in the downtown area. It was hardly recognizable as a college. Then a brilliant president somehow did some land deals that made them wealthy enough to build an impressive new campus on South Hill. They used to specialize in music, physical education, and theatre. I don't know what has been happening there lately.

"This is the same woman, of course. The difference between the statements stems from the fact that she's talking out of both sides of her mouth." No, I don't think she's being calculated and hypocritical.
She's being stupid. Stone dense stupid.

''I could easily point out, for instance, that I am not a peasant but I teach about peasants in Third World countries,'' she said.' This reminds me of the teacher I worked for when I lived in Ithaca. Since abstinence teaching was mandatory at the high school level, she dispensed with it by writing the word "abstinence" on the blackboard, then saying to the class, "That just means you don't have sex. You don't want to do that."

Ah, yes. Leftism: the idelogy of TOLERANCE. Excuse me while I throw up.
We have *got* to find a way to break their hold on our educational institutions. How are we supposed to keep our children from being indoctrinated by these people?
