Please note one error in the article: the study's authors have stated that the number of professors whose affiliation couldn't be determined was 58, not 211.

Note the comment from the professor of politics - a department in which there are no Republicans.
She moans that there are still too many "white males." Yet she claims she can teach about peasants despite not being one. If that's true, why can't those dreaded white males teach about women and minorities?
In any case, she sees diversity only in terms of sex and skin color. Diversity of thought, the only kind that should really matter in a faculty, is meaningless to her.

Diversity in all things EXCEPT thinking, this is what is so sad.

Nope, no bias here.

Seems to me like we need an affirmative action policy for Republicans at our institutions of higher learning!

"Political diversity" has a catchy ring to it... and how could the Left effectively oppose such a thing? Except, perhaps, in the minds the ideologues who want to maintain their death-grip on the hearts and minds of America's children.
Time to end the tenure of the Tenured Radicals whose main mission in life seems to be the destruction of Western Civilization. Their credibility has gone the way of their youth...

A similar study was done at the University of California - Santa Barbara and it was 90% of the registered voters were democrats.

I do believe Ithaca College can do a better job of diversifying its faculty, most of whom are white males, Barlas said. Politics, incidentally, has one of the best track records in this regard, and not having a Republican on our faculty is not the only yardstick by which we can measure diversity. It is one way by which we make a point of not measuring diversity
Senior Kara Pangburn, a politics major, said she was not surprised to hear that the majority of professors are registered as Democrats or Greens, but she thought some diversity was still present.
The differences between Democrats and Greens is starkly defined!
I dont think that the study takes into account that there is diversity in other senses, she said. A lot of the foreign professors and we have a lot of international professors in the politics department they dont identify either way. So you are getting political diversity; youre just getting it on an international scale.
Theyre not Democrats or Greens theyre Socialist.

This is like saying there is an overwhelming majority of Mormons in Salt Lake City.
Look, Ithaca College doesn't want diversity. Neither does Cornell. Neither do Harvard, Yale, Princeton, the state universities, etc. The tenured hippiecrats are seemingly intractable. It's going to be difficult to change this. My brother-in-law is impeded at every turn, because of his conservatism, from getting any kind of tenured position--at venerable Notre Dame.
Perhaps a genearation of "stealth conservatives" could invade academia, throwing off their Democratic veneer as soon as tenure is granted, like the Klingons throwing off a cloaking device. (Sorry, I like the Klingons.)

Very interesting article. Time to contact the president of my alma mater (NOT Ithaca College), faculty chairmen (oops - I mean "chairs"), Trustees, etc. and inquire about what is being done to promote political diversity.
