A terrorist infiltrated the Karni Crossing at Gaza around noon on Tuesday, killing two Israeli civilians and injuring six before soldiers shot him dead. Hamas has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attacker apparently hid in one of the inspection booths at the crossing before opening fire on the workers.

Of the six wounded, one is in serious condition, two are lightly wounded, and three are suffering from shock.

The civilians are all Airports Authority workers employed at the crossing. The Airports Authority mans all Israel's border crossings.

The attacker has been identified as Muhammad Yunais, 18, of Jabaliya.

In a separate incident, Lieut. Daniel Mandel of Alon Shvut, was killed Tuesday morning in an IDF anti-terror raid of the West Bank city of Nablus.

The 24-year-old moved to Israel from Toronto 15 years ago with his family. He was the middle son of five, and had served in the IDF for four years. His 19-year-old younger brother has just entering the army and his older brother, Jonah, 25, is a student.

"It's a cliche to say that when someone dies he was nice, but [Daniel] was a very positive person," his brother Jonah said. "He had a good energy about him, he took things in proportion. He was a very talented musician. He played piano, harmonica, guitar and the Illyan bagpipes -- that is, Irish bagpipes that you play with your elbows."

During the sweep into Nablus in which Mandel was killed, two terrorist were apprehended and Mazen Frateh of Hamas and Kamal Abu Gnesh of the PFLP were killed. Gnesh was responsible for numerous attacks that killed a total of eight civilians and four soldiers.

What's the mood on the streets in Israel? I've had the feeling for a while now, that Iraq is the calm b/4 the storm.

Or, have I been at this computer for too long today????
