Now that the battle for Baghdad is all but won, it may be time to clear up a few things.

First: Those who thought it a bad idea for America to launch what was the moral equivalent of unilateral war on Iraq have nothing to apologize for.

It's necessary to say this because the polls -- in America and elsewhere -- have been showing more and more support for the American effort. Are all these people changing their minds about the rightness of the war? Some of them, no doubt. But what seems a more reasonable conclusion is not that minds have changed, but that circumstances have changed. There's not much point in opposing the launching of a war that already has been launched and essentially won.

It's really hard to eat crow when the other side is watching. So what do you do? Admit you're wrong? Absolutely NOT! Grasp at straws? Absolutely YES whatever works as long as you're prevented from eating crow. Felt like I was in ECON 101 when the author starting using the scenario with widgets.

If the Iraqi people end up better off as a direct result of America's insistence on launching the war without the support of the United Nations, it won't be the first time that good outcomes have resulted from bad means. I don't doubt that there are some children who are healthier and happier than they would have been if they hadn't been stolen from their parents. Can't we wish the best for the children without condoning kidnapping?

Actually CPS (Child Protective Services) exists to do just this. Wanna bet where this journalist stood on the Elian situation (which was not a kidnapping)?

I listened to Pacifica recently to listen to them eat crow. No such luck. They were more vociferous than ever and I was especially appalled at the the anti-Israel rhetoric I heard. These people think nothing of Saddam's atrocities but go ballistic when some American flag-burning lunatic throws herself in front of a bulldozer.

The left didn't obstruct President Bush's widget plan because they were an expert on widgets. They make feeblevitzers and swear that no President made veeblefitzers like President Clinton made 'em.

In case anybody is wondering, the title of the piece on washingtonpost.com is "No Apologies". So it's just the editors of the Chronicle who can't spell.

The reason our soldiers can do that is that x42 had them playing peacekeepers all over the world for 8 years. We've had lots of practice - we should do a great job.

Tonight on Hannity, Sean had a kid on there who was involved in the protest at the shipyard in Oakland. It turns out the guy was a veteran, and didn't know what was on the ship. Sean ate the guy's lunch - and the guy seemed like a reasonably respectable person. I felt sorry for him - but I do hope the fact that even Colmes got into the act of telling him he should be ashamed for having tried to stop the flow of supplies to our troops, will make the guy stop and think. The guy didn't even know who the people were he was protesting with.

This guy won a Pulitzer? This is one of the stupidest articles I've ever read. He starts off with a halfway decent analogy but then fails to take it to its logical conclusion.

Your nephew insists he wants to go into the widget business and you, knowing a little something about widgets, offer your opinion that the timing is wrong, his business undercapitalized and his reading of the business climate about 180 degrees wrong. ... Once he launches, you have to hope he succeeds

Yet the whole rest of the article is devoted to the fact that when the nephew's business does succeed, we shouldn't apologize for being wrong and above all we shouldn't be happy for him. Instead we should tell him that "it won't be the first time that good outcomes have resulted from bad means" and though you're successful now there are all kinds of unspecified but insurmountable problems lurking around the corner. Better that the nephew never does anything at all. Sheesh.

I had on Pacifica today and they were still upset that there is regime change in Iraq. They seriously wish that Saddam could have remained in power and yet they had the audacity during their protests to claim that they weren't pro-Saddam.
