"It was very scary. All of that force wasn't necessary."

Use batons, not bullets ..

yup, I'm looking forward to the reports.

I assume the protestors were trying to block ships from being loaded.

Send them to Iraq, and I'm sure Saddam will take good care of them.

I wonder to what extent the officers witnessed the Fox footage last nite...might be a little pumped up...

I say good on them...those seditious bastards want to cripple our commerce in times of war...then they should be pelted hard...cuffed and interned for a week or two until their international status can be confirmed

"I was standing as far back as I could," said longshoremen Kevin Wilson. "It was very scary. All of that force wasn't necessary."

Oh Holy God!! This is going to become another Kent State martyrdom to the left.
Maybe this guy doesn't understand, the police are the good guys.

The Port of Oakland was among the targets, organizers had said, because at least one shipping company is handling war supplies.

So, preventing war supplies from reaching American troops is a viable protest strategy?? I call it treason. Why did the police use rubber bullets? These vermin tried to deny war supplies to our troops, and Saddam's thugs aren't using rubber bullets. First rule of war, identify your enemy.

Police open fired Monday morning with rubber bullets at an anti-war protest at the Port of Oakland, injuring several longshoremen standing nearby.

Women and children bear the brunt of the suffering.

LMAO

I doubt that union longshoremen will be very happy to have their workday interrupted! That means that they would not be earning any $ .

Hey longshoreman Kevin Wilson...they are blocking ships that are carrying war supplies! That is in itself an act of war, or treason or something!

I read in the SF Chronicle yesterday that the Oakland protesters are upset cause that money spent on liberating Iraq, would be better spent on more welfare, and gubmnt' cheese

Actually, the guy's just pissed that the cops cleared the way for him to go in. Now, he has to put in a day's work for the day's pay. More or less.

I'm just glad the longshoremen didn't participate with the demonstration. If you remember anything about their founder Harry Bridges, it coulda gone either way.

These stupid Clymers don't even realize that most all of the military supplies going through that port support our Pacific island and Asian bases. Glen Beck reported earlier that most of the cargo at that port destined for the Middle East is food aid.

Hundreds protesting in Oakland, other demos planned

Associated Press

Oakland - -- Oakland police opened fire with non-lethal bullets, tear gas and concussion grenades as hundreds of anti-war protesters tried to block piers at the Oakland docks this morning.

Six longshoremen standing near demonstrators at the S-S-A pier were hit by rubber or wooden bullets and were injured. They were treated by paramedics at the scene, but at least one was being transported to a hospital.

Trent Willis is a business agent for the I-L-W-U. He was extremely angry and said his members would not be going to work today.

The longshoremen were standing on the side of the road and were not involved in the protest.

Some 500 anti-war protesters were moving from pier to pier starting early this morning. They began by barring the way to the AP-L pier. At one point -- some 15 trucks carrying huge containers were waiting outside the gates for police to clear the way for them to enter.

About 100 activists were protesting at the Federal Building in San Francisco and about 30 were at the Concord Naval Weapons Station. Several were arrested in Concord for blocking the entrance to the federal facility.

The protests come two weeks after demonstrations sparked hundreds of arrests and brought downtown San Francisco to a standstill.

Oh isn't that just the truth!!! My lesbian/teacher/flaming liberal sister's favorite line is, "There are starving children in America."
I said, "Where? Free child care, free breakfast at school, free lunch at school, food stamps. If children are starving, their parents are on crack or buying lottery tickets and cigs."
Even her lesbian lover agreed (that one is a big Jimmie Carter fan), but my sis keeps spouting the same line.
