Vanity - Where Can a Person Send a Care Package for Troops
Posted on 04/05/2003 6:32:25 AM PST by Mean Daddy
I read somewhere that you can't send anonymous packages anymore, but is there an address or APO where a person could send a care package? Would like to send a carton of smokes, baby wipes etc. and don't have a name or address.
Freepers are the best and I know you'll provide some insight.
I thank you in advance for your help.

An excellent question. I have some merchandise as well that I'd like to send. Hope there is some way to do this.

We are doing packages through our church. The first one did go to a member who has been sent over there.

i talked with a wife yesterday who is heading up care. her DH and his brother are over there. she told me cigarettes are classified as "agricultural" right now and cannot be shipped. i gave her money to help mail the packages she is waiting to send. if you can find out locally where your local troops have gone, there is someone trying to help take care of them. Mine were easy to find, 3 brothers own the best gun store in the area, 2 in the war zone now. she had packages ready to mail, mailing cost 231.00. i hope she has them mailed.

If you would like to send things, do a search for How to send Easter packages to the troops. All Information is there.
You can't send tobacco but in a few days Goose will put a link on the General Interest (chat) board where we can send tobacco.
Keep looking!

Is Goose able to get the address of soldiers? Names? I would love to send some more packages but the other ones I sent went to USO-I sent beef jerkey, small rolls of toilet Paper, flea collars for their legs and baby wipes. I would love to get the name of a trooper so that I could send them a couple cartons of cigarettes.

Thanks for the info.
(I've heard that AA batteries are appreciated, and it just happens that I work for a large electronics retailer and can get quite a few.)

I'd also like to know where to send Pre-paid phone cards, so some of the troops can call home, if anyone has any information. Our group has collected many and don't know where to send them.

I probably should add that we listened to a spokesman from the military a couple weeks ago who stressed that a lot of soldiers are in holding areas in various countries and could use the pre-paid phone cards.

That is an outstanding idea! How?

What we are doing, is we have a soldier over there, but we are sending extra packages to him and telling him to share them with those in need. My daughter is an activities director in an assisted living, and the people there are writing letters too, and Ross is to give these letters to those who haven't received mail or he thinks needs a pick me up. That's the only way we figured how to get packages to lots. Even put a note in the box with smokes that Ross wasn't to make money off them (I heard one guy made $20 off a PACK of smokes)

That's funny, we checked and wasn't told that...we cotacted the recruiters office and they called back, so we sent some.
