It's another example of a left wing manager or agent thinking that they can apologize or spout off with false platitudes and the American public is dumb enough to buy it. What this moron forgets is that we are burying our dead and treating our wounded every day in a time of war. The public, by and large, remembers this every minute of every day.

"It was a joke and it wasn't planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that's what it was meant for. Pure total BS. The cheers were for her 'putdown' of President Bush. The cheers were for an American ridiculing a President as she was in a foreign country. It took ALL this time to come up with a very lame excuse that this was a joke. Perhaps dwindling CD sales had much to do with this latest 'explanantion'.
I had an uncle that put people down...only when feelings were hurt and/or the slur recipient became angry/irritated/offended did he state "it was only a joke...can't you take a joke?"
Maines issued a written apology after making the remark,.....
Hmmmm it took 4 whole days before this written (read by an assistant) was offered to the media. Once again, only after the flap of her statement generated negative publicity did she 'apologize'.
This latest pronouncement from Maines only digs a deeper hole for her.

Dixie Chicks Fear For Personal Safety After Backlash Of Anti-Bush Comment
(4/4/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks are expressing concern for their personal safety since singer Natalie Maines uttered the now infamous anti-Bush statement, "We're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas," to a London audience.
"We've gotten a lot of hate mail, a lot of threatening mail," Martie Maguire told reporters in Australia. "Emily (Robison) had the front gate of her ranch smashed in. We have to have security when we get back to the States. It puts my well-being in jeopardy."
Maines, however, has reacted more flippantly to the situation, according to reports. The singer said, "The more flack I get for it, the prouder I am." She was also quick to point out that in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas, "only six people showed up," for a public Chicks CD-smashing protest.
Maines's comment has also taken its toll on the Dixie Chicks' album sales, which have dropped a reported 52 percent. Despite the dip in sales, the group remains the top-selling country act, with their album Home firmly entrenched in the Number One spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
The Dixie Chicks will kick off their "Top Of The World" tour on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Note to Natalie: Joke for next appearance: 'My father is a pimp and my mother is a whore.' That will have them rolling in the aisles.

These are typical airhead "entertainers" who are "clueless" about the war this nation is fighting.
If anyone during WWII would utter the tasteless garbage that these entertainment-types have been spewing they would have been whisked off the national platform so fast it would make their empty heads spin.

Won't be long and she'll be doing hotel nightclubs on weekends... As a singer? Or as a prostitute, pulling Dixie tricks?

"...ashamed..."
Oh, I get it now. More or less a blonde joke.
And to think, they make the real money on tour. Roger Mooring for Euros.
Pathetic. Not ashamed.

I wonder if her request for more flack came after her "the remark I am sorry for was really a joke" claim.

I heard that also, and went on the google search for a source. (being a FReeper gets in your blood, LOL)
BTW....I keep catching bits of T-100 reporing about radio stations not being allowed to voice their opinions for/against the war. Do you know what that's about? What they said?

I don't know how well Li(m)pton Tea is hearing from the masses. I was in Vegas earlier this week and the Li(m)pton Tea ads proudly sponsoring the Chix were all over the tube.
