Saying it was a joke is quite a leap, don't ya think, from the apology in which she said: "My comments were made in frustration."

Didn't the Dixie Chicks dump a previous band member because she wasn't suitable for some reason?

Hope Natalie's ready for a solo career.

Hometown raises eyebrows, not fists, over Dixie Chicks***The fact that the trio is currently on a European tour has helped keep the controversy from spinning too far out of control - they haven't had to address the issue at every concert as they might have been forced to do on U.S. engagements.

But the group does return to the United States May 1, with a concert in Greenville, S.C., where a radio talk show host is encouraging ticket holders not to attend it. South Carolina appears particularly offended by Maines' dissing of Bush - its Legislature has passed a resolution calling for the Dixie Chicks to apologize directly to the state and play a free concert for the troops.***

No kidding. After alienating most people with the original remark, this should turn off all the anti-war folks who have been defending her.

Natalie Manes is a dolt who is getting well deserved abuse for her stupidity.

Manes is also suffering for the resentment felt towards many other anti-American wise guy loud mouths in the "entertainment community" There's a lot of free floating anger out there for noisy entertainers and Natalie is the lighting rod.

"It gets people very upset."

Yes, it does.

Natalie is the lighting rod.

Watch the next move from the PR people. Maines will begin to develop - real or not - health or mental problems because of the stress all the evil right wing folks have caused because they don't have her fine sense of humor.

She'll check into a clinic - maybe even collapse on stage (7.3 on the Richter scale) - and blame it all on the flak she's been subjected to.

IOW she'll become the victim.

"It was a joke and it wasn't planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that's what it was meant for.

This woman is incredibly stupid, as are their agents and handlers. The Dixie Chicks could've survived this if they IMMEDIATELY apologized and offered to do some free concerts for the trooops. Instead their idea of damage control is throwing more kerosene on the fire. Among other things, this particular lie doesn't even jibe with her earlier statements.

NEWS - Dixie Chicks Fear For Personal Safety After Backlash Of Anti-Bush Comment
04/04/2003

(4/4/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Dixie Chicks are expressing concern for their personal safety since singer Natalie Maines uttered the now infamous anti-Bush statement, "We're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas," to a London audience.

"We've gotten a lot of hate mail, a lot of threatening mail," Martie Maguire told reporters in Australia. "Emily (Robison) had the front gate of her ranch smashed in. We have to have security when we get back to the States. It puts my well-being in jeopardy."

Maines, however, has reacted more flippantly to the situation, according to reports. The singer said, "The more flack I get for it, the prouder I am." She was also quick to point out that in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas, "only six people showed up," for a public Chicks CD-smashing protest.

Maines's comment has also taken its toll on the Dixie Chicks' album sales, which have dropped a reported 52 percent. Despite the dip in sales, the group remains the top-selling country act, with their album Home firmly entrenched in the Number One spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

The Dixie Chicks will kick off their "Top Of The World" tour on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina.

Stupid, no, she is just reverting to what she does when she has no other choices, i.e. dropping to her knees. It's the matephorical equivalent.

Wow! She really wants to flame out in spectacular fashion. I'm equally amazed now that the other two are apparently too stupid to dump her.

PJ COmix said "Country fans are a breed apart, the kind of rugged individualists that this country was built by. Natalie Maines is a stone cold idiot for not knowing even the first thing about her main fan base."

That is the same thing I have been screaming for the past month. Regardless of Political parties, Country music fans are steeped in God, Country and the ex-wife!
