Administration Source: Baghdad Will Fall From Within

The Saddam Hussein regime will end as a result of an internal collapse sparked by undercover U.S. operatives working with disaffected Iraqi officials, and not as a result of frontal attacks by U.S. forces assaulting the Iraqi capital an influential Pentagon source told Fox News.

Covert U.S. forces operating inside the besieged city have established close contacts with Iraqi officials and the administration source indicates that the end could come suddenly and without a major battle inside the city.

As NewsMax.com reported yesterday U.S. Hit Squads Targeting Top IraqisCIA and special forces operatives are working inside enemy lines and the Fox News report adds more detail abiut their activities.

According to Fox Pentagon correspondent Bret Baier, the source told him "We know who's with us, and we know who's against us, and we're in constant communication."

Hopefully this is not another rosy scenario being peddled.

According to Fox Pentagon correspondent Bret Baier

Is Bret paid directly by the government, or is Fox a subcontractor?

With most of the war criminals in Bagdad, it seems a bit hard to believe as being a scenario with substantial odds of ensuing.

Who knows. But we do know that he had a date tonight. Shep said so - a couple of times. LOL!

I predict this story just won't generate the feedback that the Reuters story did.

I have appreciated Carl Limbacher's writing efforts in the past, but this one belongs in the "Loose Lips Sink Ships" category.

I agree.

I wonder if old saddam's biggest bunker is under that big mosque in Bagdad... you know the one that has an big oversized "tower" next to it.

Would be great for us, our allies, Iraqi's if true. But I fear more likely it's Monday's rally rumor?

It does seem that the Murdoch owned news outlets are willingly being used.

I don't think so-- this is coming out from too many places, which tells me the Administration WANTS it out. Why, I don't know, but we'll see.

Well now, if you think about it, historically....isn't this HOW regimes fall? From within?

Why, I don't know, but we'll see.

Feed paranoia inside the remaining members of the regime, be my guess. Couple this with the hit squad stories and I am sure these not-so-brave monsters are having a hard time not killing each other.

If history is any indicator this is wishful thinking. Stalin went into hiding during the first weeks of the war when Hitler invaded. He reportedly got drunk and hung out at his villa. When his cronies came to his Dacha to fetch him- he was expecting to be arressted and killed. He wasn't.

In such terror regimes all of the little Stalin's and Sadaam's depend on the heirarchy for survival. There was fierce loyalty to Stalin among his apparatchiks not because they loved him (they hated him) but because they would be dead without him. That is the same with the regime Sadaam has (and by many accounts he actually modeled his terror regime on a study of Stalin's tactics.) That this was not known to our fancy boy neocons when calling for this war is less than heartening.

"if this news was read on baghdad ,it could get people killed, the source should have kept quiet."

No question. It will get some people killed.

Very likely, some folks we want to have killed...

It does not matter: whether correct or not, it sets unreasonable expectations for the public.

Administration Source

During WWII, such source would've been taken out and shot for treason. Now we have an "army of one," so this "source" fights as he deems fit.
