Snubbed by Oscar (O'Toole in checkered company)

Ask Peter O'Toole. He'll grimace and groan and warn, in so many words, ``Beware the Honorary Oscar.''

Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Greta Garbo, Lillian Gish, Barbara Stanwyck, Buster Keaton and Kirk Douglas -- Hollywood legends all -- were quasi-embarrassed recipients of kiss-up or make-up Oscars bestowed belatedly for ``versatility,'' ``commitment'' and ``unique contributions to the art of the motion picture'' (code for: Oops! We overlooked you).

I would have given Albert Finney some award for Tom Jones - one of my favorite movies ever. He WAS the rascally scamp with a heart of gold. And damn hot, too.

And Peter Sellers was an absolute genius.

Sellers was scorned for 'slumming' as Inspector Clueseau. Dr. Strangelove should have taken the top 5 Oscars, at least.

The list is very telling. Especially when it includes the two greatest film people of all time...Chaplin and Hitchcock.

Years ago, when I was a dungeon master, I once introduced a party of players to a very polite evil cleric. To describe him, I said that if we were making a movie, he'd be played by James Mason. The responses of all the players were along the lines of, "Oh my God, We're in deep trouble."

The man did urbane and menacing at the same time, long before there ever was a Hannibal the Cannibal.

I am surprised about Robert Altman. He is a communist. I do like Alan Arkin. He is a very good actor, in my opinion.

I always wondered why he hasn't won. Then Denzel Washington whines and cries about racism and how the statue doesn't look like 'him' then he wins... PUHLEEZE mi'ja. Freeman has way more class.

My favorite MF movies:
Driving Miss Daisy
Robinhood Prince of Thieves (when muslims were on our side for a change)- I still can't believe Azeem was going to be executed for adultery...lol
Unforgiven

much more that I can't recall because I have a lot of fav movies. Oscars are a joke. Every so often they nail it but how many times does that happen?

Brilliant performance for Mason...Jeremy Irons should shine Mason's shoes for the unforgivable awful remake of the Nabokov novel.

Add Deborah Kerr to this list, which proves what a joke the Oscars are.

Just keep repeating "Nicolas Cage is an Oscar winner."

Fatal Attraction was really good! But after seeing Bridges of Madison County I have to say Meryl Streep is better.
