I was a part of Operation Desert Storm, serving on the USS Saratoga. Your news choices are quite limited when you're on a carrier in the middle of the Red Sea, so I was unable to judge for myself how vocal the anti war protestors were during that time, and unable to really tell how blatant the anti-American bias on the networks was. We weren't shown much "anti" coverage, but I know it was out there since my brother was quite enraged by it, as he let me know in his letters. What are your thoughts on how bad the protests and media coverage are for this war compared with what they were like during Desert Storm?
I know this is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, since we didn't have easy Internet access or FR during Desert Storm, and our choices of media outlets were ABC, CBS, NBC and the then-upstart (but still far left) CNN. But I'm still curious as to other Freeper's opinions as to what the level of support for this conflict is compared with Desert Strom.
IMHO on a scale of 0 to 10 (0 being no protests al'a WW Duce and 10 being the height of Vietnam)
Protest: Gulf One: 1, Gulf Two: 5.
Media & Others Bias:
1. CBS/NBC/ABC- Gulf One: 2, Gulf Two: 5.
2. CNN- Gulf One: 2, Gulf 2: 5.
3. MSNBC- Gulf 2: 5.
4. FOX- Gulf 2: 3.
5. BBC- Guld One: 3, Gulf Two 3.
6. Uncle Walter: Gulf One: 0, Gulf Two: 9.
7. Jimmy Carter: Gulf One: 0, Gulf Two: 8.
8. Tom Daschle: Gulf One: ? , Gulf Two: 24.
9. Helen Thomas*: Gulf One: ?, Gulf Two: 113.

Colin Powell set the whole precedent and idea that the rightness/wrongness of our efforts was not based on moral certitude, but rather upon whether the people of the world and the leaders of various countries (including useless countries like Cameroon and evil ones like France and China) judged that we had met some burden of proof or had done enough to convince them.
In essence, Powell tried to make this a democratic war, where everyone got to vote. The implication of course in asking uninformed, useless, and sometimes evil people to vote for our war (whether in the UN or in public opinion) is that you are implying that they do in fact have a vote and that they can vote no.
I talk to friends ande acquaintances who don't have political opinions about anything, yet they do about this, because it was solicited. Naturally, by bringing in millions of opinion that otherwise would not be made, some will be against you.
