British Morning Papers - The Front Pages (BLAIR FORCE WON!)
Sky News ^ | March 19, 2003

Posted on 03/18/2003 8:41:01 PM PST by Dont Mention the War

The Sun is in no doubt that Tony Blair's passionate Commons performance carried the day against the "war wobblers". It says the Prime Minister delivered the speech of his life in a "brilliant, blistering offensive".

The Mirror focuses on Cabinet minister Clare Short and claims she is now a political pariah after ditching her pledge to quit over war with Iraq.

Under the headline "We're Gonna Get You Saddam", the Star says the most powerful invasion force in history is preparing to rid the world of Saddam Hussein.

The Mail hails Tony Blair's "thunderous call to arms" and says his most powerful commons performance of his life limited the backbench revolt.

The Express says Saddam Hussein is arming his troops with chemical weapons in time for a doomsday last stand around Baghdad.

The Guardian says Tony Blair put his premiership on the line when he warned he would quit rather than back down over Iraq.

The Independent says Tony Blair has staked his political future on winning Commons support for war with Iraq.

Tony Blair gambled his poltical career securing the backing of Parliament for war with Iraq, says the Telegraph. It also claims public opinion has hardened in favour of war with Iraq.

The Times says Tony Blair deployed all his rhetorical armour yesterday to rally his divided party and the House of Commons behind war against Iraq.

The Financial Times reports that Tony Blair has declared his ambition to heal the rift between the US and Europe after the war in Iraq.

Thank goodness CSPAN2 replayed Blair's brilliant and inspiring speech today so I was able to see and hear it myself.

Marking for morning.

Blair Force Won! Gotta love it!

We are so thankful for Tony Blair's strong stand for what is right, even at great political risk. He has certainly shown me that, in spite of having many views with which I disagree, he has the right stuff!

May God bless him and all the troops from Britain as well as President Bush and our American fighting forces!

I think Dubya's had a good influence on him. Blair obviously likes being a cowboy.

And that other guy had a bad influence on him. Granted, he was still new at it though. God Bless Britian for their total support!

Maybe his exposure to the sleaze-bag left him sickened and he decided to use Clinton as a perfect example of how not-to-lead.

CSpan is repeating the House of Commons debate now. The conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith is speaking, backing Tony Blair.

I must say, I didn't ( and don't) know much about Blair's policies, but on this issue he has shown incredible character and courage.

Maybe we just assumed he was great pals with the impeached X42. Tony Blair seems like such a classy, refined, gentleman, I can't imagine that he would actually choose a friend the likes of Bubba.

Tony Blair is gambled his political career securing the backing of Parliament for war with Iraq, says the Telegraph. It also claims public opinion has hardened in favor of war with Iraq. The headline says "Back the war, or I'll quit".

Is this true? If so, it proves conviction and courage in light of public opposition. The Germans and French have caused countless death, destruction, and misery in the UK and USA. Germany - for her imperial brutality and France - for her placating cowardice. If there are 2 countries on earth that need to be jettisoned (figuratively) for their collective national psychosis, it is them.

Put Blair's eloquence in Bush, and we'd have an astounding leader. As it stands, we simply have a miraculously effective leader.
