March 14, 2003 -- For the first time, Secretary of State Colin Powell yesterday suggested that the Bush administration may be ready to pull the plug on diplomacy and finally move against Saddam Hussein.
It's about time.
"The day of reckoning is fast approaching," Powell said on Capitol Hill.

Even for those of us who think this is a mistake, it is past time to do it and be done. No recriminations, just move forward. Bush has nothing to gain, and more face to lose, by waiting even one more hour. Roll 'em.

But we HAVE gained something through this exercise in futility - a fast-paced education for the American public as to the true nature of the UN - and who are real allies and enemies are. This alone may prove priceless.
