Democratic party pollsters are buzzing about the possibility that [New York Civil Rights Activist] the Reverend Al Sharpton, generally dismissed as the party's gadfly, could actually score big in, of all places, the American South.

They reason that Big Al will be attractive to blacks, who make up a large chunk of Dixie Dems. [and 40% of the early South Carolina voting Democratic Primary base]

Which leads to another hot topic in Democratic circles: If a favorite other than Sharpton doesn't become obvious by late fall, look for a strong effort to draft Junior New York Senator [and Former First Lady] Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The Iowa Democratic Party is already thinking that.
