I checked to see if anyone else had posted anything about this. Seeing nothing I jumped into the breach.

Another fact he flung at his tiny, badly-dressed book store audience, was that people came to Free Republic and stayed for 5+ hours, making us an unbeatable force since Liberals suffer from ADD and can't stay with anything longer than the average bowel movement. (I paraphrased that last bit)

You'd be surprised at the number of FReepers who have ADD, and who some of them are. Ever hear that people with ADD have the ability to hyper-focus when they are interested in something?

.....(Alterman) claimed that, during the Florida recount, the saint-like members of this forum posted the phone numbers and home addresses of the Florida Supremes ......(and that) Free Republic was reponsible for the flood of Republican activists who descended on the state and therefore was responsible for the Bush presidency.

That's all he credited us with? That only skims the surface of our accomplishments.

Not only that, Eric ain't seen nothing yet. And that's a promise.

The source of his tirade seemed to be his book which might be worth checking out. Just figure out how to do it without actually paying money for it.

I'll take it out of my local library. If I remember to return it on time, I won't even have to pay a fine.

Actually, if you've watched MTV, you'd see evidence that their attention span is much shorter than even a very short movement.

I guess little Eric is under the impression that those of us in the state of Flyover should not be allowed to voice our opinions.

We at FR are just people who've gotten sick and tired of writing letters to the editor of liberal newspapers and only to be consistently rejected. We don't have to wait anymore for the 'approval' of an editor to have others see our point of view.

We are our own editorial board.

That 'Free Assembly' bit really pisses the lefties off.
Only THEY'RE allowed to get together. Not the conservatives.
This guy is a wipe.
One of the last vestiges of namby-pamby liberalism.

I live in Florida. In one of the most Republican counties in the state, with optical counting machines and a voting system about as idiot proof as it gets. We did not have any voting discrepancies and yet, after the election, we had floods of out of state Democrat operatives and lawyers come to our county election office with the sole intent of wreaking havoc on our election process. Had it not been for Free Republic and other conservatives outlets, a horrible travesty would have been visited on Florida and the country. Alterman has it exactly wrong.

I am the one who posted the lengthly lists of Fax Numbers of relevant people in Florida - to include the Supreme Court's. I also set up the FReeper AutoFax Service. See this thread for example. Along with the fax numbers, several addresses of courthouses, county buildings and such were posted so that protestors would know where to go. I was heavily involved in Free Republic's efforts to counter Al Gore's illegal attempted coup. And I can state that I never saw anyone post the home addresses of the members of the Florida Supreme Court. Never! Eric Alterman is a bald-faced liar.

I do, however, accept his compliments on the power that we projected all the way to Florida and for crediting Free Republic for putting down Gore's bloodless coup attempt. Our fax efforts were specifically mentioned by Katherine Harris and others. We knew email was a bust and that it would take too long for snail mail so I went with the fax idea. I tell you, we burned up a lot of fax machines. It was great! We could watch on C-Span as the Democrat election supervisors were pretending that people had cast votes that they clearly had not. We could immediately react and flood that county building with thousands upon thousands of faxes telling them that "The Whole World Is Watching" and that we could clearly see them breaking the law. Just look through some of those "Freepers Fax Freely" threads and see some what we were up to.

He also said Free Republic was repsonsible for the flood of Republican activists
who descended on the state and therefore was responsible for the Bush presidency.

Jeez, I'm going to have to go to the pharmacy and pop a few anti-hubris pills.

Folks, please have some compassion for Mr. Alterman.

He's probably still in a state of shock after his visit to The Michael Medved Show...
