Americans objecting to the anti-war rhetoric of Hollywood celebrities are no longer remaining silent, but are starting to fight back with their own grass-roots offensive.
They're on the attack flooding actors, talent agencies and anti-war groups with their own thoughts on the possibility of war with Iraq, and what they think of the public stances being taken by many entertainers.
"These [celebrities] are abusing their stature and they need to be informed that there is a lot of America who vehemently disagrees with them," says Los Angeles radio talk-show host John Kobylt. "They need to be put back in their place. They need to understand where they are in the great food chain of life."

Actors have as much of a right to show their opinions as normal people do. They are not elected to represent the people, they are merely using their talents to succeed as best they can. Through this they have come upon popularity and money. However they are allowed to express their opinions. Just because you dont agree with those opinions does not mean that these people are out of place.

And normal people have a right to tell them to shut up. Actors do not have any more credibility on matters of national security than anyone else, yet they attempt to use their status to influence the masses, usually displaying their bias all the while. In McCain's words (to Carter and Clinton), they should "Shut Up".

Surely they are free to express their opinions and those who hear them have every right to express their opinions of what they are saying. They all have the same right.

You are "out of place" here at Freerepublic. This is a conservative forum for conservatives and American Patriots. I noticed that your two other posts (since you signed up last week) are defending Islam. I don't think you'll be around here for too long.

Through this they have come upon popularity and money. However they are allowed to express their opinions. Just because you dont agree with those opinions does not mean that these people are out of place. They have every right to speak their opinions. And I have every right to tell them that their opinions are juvenile, ill-informed, and have the potential to cause great harm, and that they would be well advised to hold their tongues until they learn enough about the subject to give a more responsible opinion on the matter.
As I've said before, when you have an opportunity to speak into a microphone reaching millions, you'd damned sure better make sure you've got something worthwhile to say.

Most of us heartily endorse freedom of speech. We recognize the right of everyone to express his/her opinion, whether or not we agree with it.
However, when (many) celebrities use events such as awards shows and the like to spout off on political/world affairs, that's another matter entirely. They are able to reach potentially millions of people, while the rest of us are generally limited as to the numbers of people we can reach with our views.
For example, George Clooney can spout off about U.S. policies in Iraq from some event in Germany and get world-wide coverage. A non-celeb won't get air-time for his/her views, and must be satisfied with a small audience of friends, relatives, co-workers or town meetings. Do you understand the problem here, Walrus25?
The gripe isn't about freedom of speech, it's about appropriateness of the forum.
